Full installation and setup guide for the 2GIG-NVR1 4-channel PoE Network Video Recorder, covering hard drive setup, wiring, camera configuration, and troubleshooting.
Installation Instructions for the 2GIG-NVR1 Network Video Recorder (1TB) — a 4-channel PoE NVR for 2GIG IP cameras, covering hard drive installation, wall mounting, back-panel connections, first-time setup, camera configuration, and troubleshooting.
Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, variable speed electric drill, level (for wall mounting).
Indicator LEDs: PWR (power — steady ON when operating, OFF when shut down), HDD (flashes when data is read/written), LAN (non-PoE network activity), and 4 PoE port LEDs (flash when data transmits to/from an IP camera). Front ports include KB/MOUSE (USB mouse/keyboard) and BACKUP (USB flash drive or removable hard disk).
| Port | Description |
|---|---|
| COM 1 (IN/OUT, 1B/1A) | Alarm input (one) and alarm output (one, requires 5V load) |
| LAN | RJ45 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface |
| HDMI / VGA | Video output interfaces |
| LINE OUT | Audio output |
| MIC IN | Microphone input |
| RESET | Factory reset button |
| PoE 1–4 | Four PoE Class 3 network interfaces for IP cameras |
| DC IN | External power adapter connection |
Connect up to 4 IP cameras to the PoE ports, or route cameras via the LAN network. Add external power last, after all other connections are made.
Important: Default password is "admin" — change it after first login via the Authentication Accounts screen.
Set the device name, time zone, DST start/end times, date format, and enable Network Time Protocol (NTP) for accuracy. Set "Sync Camera Time" to AUTO so all connected IP cameras stay synchronized to the NVR's clock.
Use the Playback screen to select a camera and a highlighted calendar date (video exists on highlighted days). The timeline bar shows continuous recording in green and motion/alarm recording in red. Use Alarm Search to browse and back up specific alarm events to external media. Mobile apps (iOS/Android "2GIG NVR") support live view, login, camera list, and calendar-based playback.
To view video away from your home network, forward UDP/TCP ports 30001 (control) and 36000 (forward) on your router. Each NVR or camera device needs its own unique control port. You'll need your WAN IP address or DDNS name to register the device in the mobile app.
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Cannot see IP camera on network | Confirm camera is powered (PoE port connected correctly, or power supply plugged in); check the camera's power LED; confirm network cable is on the LAN, not PoE ports; if using WPS, confirm router support and active pairing. |
| Cannot see NVR on network | Verify PWR LED is solid red; confirm Ethernet is on the LAN port (not PoE); log in via VGA/HDMI monitor and confirm "Obtain IP Address Automatically" is enabled in Quick Setup; manually set an IP if DHCP isn't available. |
| Image not clear at night | Clean the camera lens; ensure nothing blocks the IR emitter; verify Day/Night is set to Auto; disable WDR when IR LEDs are active. |
| More than 4 cameras needed | Not supported — the 2GIG NVR maxes out at 4 IP cameras and 18 Mbps total throughput. |
| SD card format fails (on camera) | Format the card on a PC first (needs ext4 file system), then re-insert and format again on the camera. |
| Firmware update duration | Typically 5–10 minutes for both wired and wireless updates. |
The NVR supports 8 concurrent streams to browsers/mobile devices and 5 concurrent remote browser sessions (serving up to 4 video streams). Remote IP camera configuration via the mobile app is not supported — use the local admin interface.
