Installation instructions for the 2GIG-DW30-345 Outdoor Wireless Contact Sensor for gates, doors, and other openings, with mounting guidelines and specifications.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the 2GIG-DW30-345 Outdoor Wireless Contact Sensor — a rugged, weather-resistant magnetic contact sensor for gates, doors, and other items that open and close, communicating with the control panel on the 345 MHz frequency.

    Overview

When the magnet (mounted near the sensor) moves away from or closer to the door contact's sensor, signals are transmitted to the control panel. The sensor also includes an external input that accepts connections from Normally Closed (NC) dry contact devices, and is equipped with a cover and wall tamper switch for added protection.

    Box Contents

    • Outdoor Sensor
    • Magnet
    • Lithium AA Batteries (2x)
    • Mounting screws

    Installing the Batteries

    1. Loosen the cover screw.
    2. Choose any pry point, then use a small screwdriver to remove the Sensor Mounting Plate.
    3. Remove the Sealing Cover.
    4. Install the two Lithium Ion batteries.
    5. Align the Sealing Cover to the screw hole in the sensor cover, then press to close.
    6. Engage the sensor tabs into the mating holes in the Sensor Mounting Plate and swing closed. Secure with the cover screw.

    Mounting Guidelines

    • Mount the sensor within 100 ft (30 m) of the control panel. Transmitter range is up to 350 ft (106.7 m) open air, but sensor location and orientation can significantly affect range.
    • If RF communication is insufficient, use a repeater (P/N: 2GIG-RPTR1-345).
    • Before final mounting, perform a walk test to verify good RF communication with the control panel — see the control panel's Installation and Programming Guide for the full test procedure.
    • Mount on a vertical surface at sufficient height where water, snow, and ice buildup won't interrupt operation. Adding silicone caulk around the rubber wire seal on the Sealing Cover increases protection against water.
    • Mount the Magnet on the sensing side of the Sensor. On wooden surfaces a gap of ~2" is possible (less on metal surfaces).
    • Mount the Sensor on the stationary surface and the Magnet on the moving surface, parallel with one another.
    • On wooden surfaces, mount the sensor and magnet on the inside of the structure if possible. On curved surfaces, use zip ties and/or suitable screws.

    Recommended Magnet/Sensor Spacing

    • Preferred mounting distance between Sensor and Magnet: 1/4 inch
    • Maximum gap: 2 inches
    • Sensor and Magnet should be mounted at equal height; a height offset exceeding 1/4" may decrease detection capability.

    Tamper Protection

The tamper switch activates if the cover is removed or the sensor is detached from its mounting location.

    External Wiring (Optional)

May be used with an external closed-contact switch. Use minimum 22AWG jacketed cable; the contact switch must be Form C (SPDT) type. UL: maximum wire length cannot exceed 3 feet.

    1. Strip the cable jacket back ~4 inches to allow room for Sealing Cover removal during battery changes.
    2. Feed the cable through the access hole in the Sensor Mounting Plate, using the cable notch to pass through the jacketed portion, then attach the plate.
    3. Route the cable to the external contact switch and fasten at intervals to secure it.
    4. Remove the Sealing Cover and feed the wires through the rubber wire seal (remove batteries first if installed).
    5. Connect the wires to the terminal block in the battery chamber, then reinstall the batteries.
    6. Replace the Sealing Cover — the cover screw hole should line up with the sensor cover's screw hole. Apply silicone caulking to the rubber wire seal.
    7. Engage the tabs into the Sensor Mounting Plate slots and swing closed; secure with the cover screw.

    Painting the Sensor

The sensor and magnet may be painted to match the mounting surface color — use only paints made for plastic, and follow the paint manufacturer's instructions. Do not use metallic paint colors.
