The AprilAire Flush Mount Temperature Sensor recess-mounts in the wall, and wires directly to the thermostat with three wires. Like the surface-mount sensor (sold separately), the flush-mount sensor allows the thermostat to be mounted remotely. All other performance characteristics are identical to the surface-mount sensor, including temperature averaging, and as a wiring work-around.
