    Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Real Living Assure Lock touchscreen deadbolt (YRD226) — a keypad-based smart deadbolt with an optional Network Module for remote connectivity. Covers physical installation, PIN code programming, factory defaults, and troubleshooting.

    Installation Overview

    Full illustrated steps are in the downloadable PDF. High-level sequence:

    1. Prepare the door (bore holes per template)
    2. Install optional fire kit parts (Model YRD620 only, if applicable)
    3. Install the latch & strike plate — bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position; note horizontal mechanism orientation. Supports 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset.
    4. Install the touchscreen escutcheon on the outside of the door
    5. Install the interior mounting plate
    6. Attach the cable assembly connecting interior and exterior components
    7. Install the interior escutcheon (secured with 3 screws)
    8. Test operation before installing batteries — bolt must be retracted
    9. Install the optional Network Module (if used)
    10. Install batteries and replace the cover

    Programming Instructions

    1. Creating a Master PIN Code

    Must be performed upon installation or after a factory reset — no other programming is possible until this step is complete. Touch the screen to activate, press the gear key to register, enter a 4-8 digit Master PIN code, and press the gear key again to confirm. The unit responds "Registered."

    2. Creating User PIN Codes

    Requires the Master PIN code to be created first. Enter the Master PIN, enter menu mode, select User PIN Code Registration, then enter a 4-8 digit PIN for the new user (code flashes to confirm). Repeat to add more codes, or press the gear key to end programming.

    3. Unlocking with a PIN Code

    Enter the PIN code and press the gear key.

    Resetting to Factory Default

    1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
    2. Remove the interior escutcheon to access the reset button (located beside the PCB cable connector).
    3. Press and hold the reset button (minimum 3 seconds) while reinstalling batteries, then release.
    4. Replace the battery cover.

    Upon reset, all user codes (including the Master PIN) are deleted and all settings return to factory defaults. Master PIN Code creation must be performed before any further programming.

    Key Definitions

    • All Code Lockout Mode: Enabled by the Master code — restricts all user (except Master) PIN code access. A red locked padlock appears when a code is entered during lockout.
    • Privacy Mode: Press the privacy button for 4 seconds to enter do-not-disturb mode, disabling all PIN codes.
    • Tamper Alert: Audible alarm sounds if someone attempts to forcibly remove the outside lock from the door.
    • One Touch Locking: When latch is retracted, activating the keypad extends the latch during Auto Re-lock; when disabled, any valid PIN code re-locks the unit.
    • Network Module Setting: With the optional Network Module, an additional Main Menu option (7) allows the lock to join/exit a network controller connection.

    Programming Troubleshooting

    Symptom Suggested Action
    Lock doesn't respond, door open/accessible Touch with a larger area of hand/fingers, contacting at least 3 points on the screen; check if displayed numbers respond when pressed.
    Lock doesn't respond, door locked/inaccessible Check battery installation/orientation and condition. Use the mechanical key override to enter and replace batteries.
    Unit chimes but door won't open Check for foreign objects in the door gap; verify the wire harness is firmly connected to the PCB.
    Unit won't automatically re-lock Check if Auto Re-lock Mode is enabled; check for a low battery indicator and replace batteries if lit.
    PIN codes won't register Codes must be 4-8 digits; the same code can't be reused across users. Only the Master code can register/manage codes.
    "Invalid code" or timeout after entering PIN Lockout Mode may be enabled — only the Master user can disable it. Codes must be entered within 5 seconds of screen activation.
    Unit responds "Low Battery" Replace all 4 AA alkaline batteries.

    Hardware Troubleshooting

    • Bolt won't deadlock: Check clearance in the strike-side jamb; increase pocket depth if needed. Check for bolt/strike misalignment.
    • Bolt doesn't extend/retract smoothly: Check backset adjustment, door preparation, and that the keypad wire harness is routed correctly under the bolt.
    • Keypad numerics scrolling: Remove the interior escutcheon and verify the wire harness lies flat and is properly routed/tucked under the cable guide.

    Replacing the Cylinder

    Remove the outside escutcheon and rubber gasket, gently lift the spring with a small flathead screwdriver (notch on cylinder top engages the spring), then pull the cylinder outward to remove. Reverse the steps to install a new cylinder — confirm correct tailpiece length first: L = 3-1/2" (88.8mm) for 1-3/8"-2" thick doors, L = 3-3/4" (95.3mm) for 2"-2-1/4" thick doors (requires Thin Door Kit for <1-3/8" doors).
