    Installation and owner's manual for the Winland EnviroAlert EA200 and EA400 environmental alarm systems, which monitor temperature, humidity, and water presence and trigger alarm relay outputs when programmed limits are exceeded.

    Overview

    The EnviroAlert EA200 and EA400 provide alarm signals when monitored conditions exceed user-programmable HIGH LIMIT or LOW LIMIT set points. Alarm signals are provided via relay outputs that can operate with alarm panels, process controls, security systems, or other automated equipment. Setup is done using front panel keys and an icon-based LCD display.

    The EA200 and EA400 can monitor multiple critical environments using multiple sensor inputs, with each sensor input/alarm channel designated as a "Zone." The two models differ primarily in the number of zones supported:

    • EA200 — 2 zones. Zone 1 is permanently programmed as a temperature monitor using a built-in sensor. Zone 2 has an external sensor input that can monitor temperature, humidity, or presence of water.
    • EA400 — 4 zones, each with an external sensor input connector (no built-in sensor). Each zone can independently monitor temperature, humidity, or presence of water.

    Each zone has its own Form C relay output that activates when a monitored condition exceeds the programmed range. An AUX (Auxiliary) output relay activates whenever any zone is in alarm, useful for a single output to an alarm panel or optional audible alarm.

    Using appropriate accessory sensors (sold separately), the EA200/EA400 can monitor: temperature from –50°C to 150°C (–58°F to 299°F), humidity from 5% to 95% RH, and presence of water. Units mount directly to a 2-gang electrical enclosure or to walls.

    Safety / Limitations of the Alarm System

    • No alarm system offers guaranteed protection against every failure — individuals may bypass sensors, power may be interrupted, and warning devices may not be heard through closed doors or on other floors.
    • Telephone lines and wireless signal paths used to relay alarms can be compromised or blocked.
    • Equipment is subject to component failure over time; weekly testing of detection devices, control panels, and keypads is recommended.
    • An alarm system is not a substitute for insurance.

    Installation

    Tools and Supplies Required

    • #2 flat-blade screwdriver
    • Sensors (not supplied)
    • Sensor wiring (typically 18-22 AWG twisted-pair, not supplied)
    • Alarm wiring (typically 18-22 AWG)

    Power Supply Requirements

    Power source must furnish REGULATED 11 to 14VDC (EA200-12 / EA400-12) or 23 to 26VDC (EA200-24 / EA400-24), via a regulated AC/DC adapter or a regulated DC power supply from an alarm panel. All terminals must be connected to a Class 2 Power Limited Circuit per NFPA 70, Article 725.

    Selecting a Mounting Location

    • Install where authorized personnel can readily access the device, considering a location that discourages unauthorized access.
    • Maximum cabling distance between sensor and unit: 304 m (1,000 ft.).
    • Install in a location meeting the environmental operating conditions — if using the EA200's built-in temperature sensor (Zone 1), the unit must be installed in the environment it's intended to monitor.
    • Avoid RF interference sources near the unit, wiring, or sensors.
    • Caution: Do not install the EA200 or EA400 inside coolers or freezers.

    Mounting

    The unit uses a removable rear mounting plate. Remove the plate from the main chassis (disengage the bottom retainer tabs, then the upper hinges), then mount it either to a 2-gang electrical enclosure (4 machine screws) or directly to a drywall surface (mark hole locations, install drywall anchors). Prepare a wiring access hole at the mounting location — all wiring must pass through the opening in the center of the mounting plate.

    Connections

    All connections use Terminal Block Adapters (supplied with the unit and sensors). Strip wire ends, insert into the adapter, secure with set screws, then press the adapter onto the circuit board header pins.

    PWR IN Main power connection. Observe (+)/(−) polarity — reversed polarity can damage the unit.
    PWR OUT Powers approved accessories (e.g. HA-III Humid Alert, PN 1128). Do not connect unsuitable loads.
    SENSOR IN 1–4 External sensor inputs. EA200 only uses SENSOR IN 1 (Zone 2); EA400 uses all four (Zones 1–4). Only connect sensors specified in the manual.
    AUX OUT Form C relay that activates on any alarm; not configurable for energized/de-energized mode.
    OUTPUT 1–4 Per-zone Form C alarm relay outputs (EA200 uses OUTPUT 1–2; EA400 uses OUTPUT 1–4).

    Warning: Relay outputs are for low-voltage, low-current alarm connections only — not for switching AC-mains powered loads. Connecting AC-mains circuits may cause electric shock or fire hazard.

    Caution: Do not connect or disconnect power, sensor, or alarm wiring with power applied.

    Setup and Programming

    • Power up and unlock the unit for programming (ALARM SILENCE + ENTER toggles Locked/Unlocked mode).
    • Set the time and date.
    • Program each zone: sensor type (temperature Red/Blue, humidity, or water detection), HIGH/LOW limits, alarm relay energize/de-energize mode, and optional alarm delay (up to 120 minutes — useful to prevent false alarms during freezer/cooler defrost cycles or frequently opened doors).
    • Offset adjustment (±9 units) lets you align the displayed reading with existing equipment.
    • Lock the program settings when finished to prevent accidental changes.

    Key Functions

    ALARM SILENCE Interrupts the AUX output relay for 10 minutes on alarm; with ENTER, toggles Locked/Unlocked mode.
    TIME/DATE Accesses Time/Date set mode (when unlocked).
    ZONE Accesses zone programming (unlocked) or selects the zone displayed (normal operation).
    OFFSET Allows offset entry for the displayed zone.
    INCREASE / DECREASE Scrolls selections/values; toggles between zones.
    ENTER Saves a selection/value and advances to the next programming item.
    ALARM HISTORY Displays up to 8 stored alarm events (time, date, zone, limit exceeded). Hold 5 seconds to clear history.

    Operation

    During normal operation the display cycles through zone readings. When an alarm condition exists, the alarm icon flashes (steady if within the delay period, flashing once the delay elapses). Use the ALARM HISTORY key to review up to 8 stored alarm events with timestamps.
