    Installation instructions for conduit and grounding of equipment in STI non-metallic enclosures, including hub/hole size reference tables and Canadian Electrical Code grounding requirements.

    Overview

    These instructions cover proper conduit installation and equipment grounding when using STI non-metallic enclosures, including drainage hole requirements for Type 2 and 3R rated enclosures.

    1. Conduit Holes

    Cut holes in the enclosure (when required) at the desired location. The preferred method is a Greenlee Cutter — place the punch on the inside of the enclosure and draw it through to the outside.

    2. Conduit Connections

    • Metallic Conduit: First secure the conduit connector (hub) onto the conduit. Then secure the connector (hub) into the prepared enclosure hole using the connector locknut. Attach a grounding bushing with the proper size ground wire lug over the connector locknut.
      Caution: Bonding between grounding bushings, or between grounding bushings and the equipment grounding terminal (when provided), must be included per the Canadian Electrical Code.
    • Non-metallic Conduit: Secure the conduit to the connector (hub) either before or after the connector is secured into the prepared hole with the locknut. Grounding bushing is not required.
      Caution: Align the conduit to avoid unnecessary stress on the enclosure walls. For maximum corrosion protection, cover/coat all exposed metal and seal off conduit openings where conductors enter the enclosure.

    3. Grounding of Equipment

    Install the grounding conductor in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code requirements. This applies to both metallic conduit (connector locknut, grounding bushing, grounding conductor, equipment grounding terminal) and non-metallic conduit installations.

    4. Drainage Hole Requirements (Type 2 and 3R Enclosures)

    Cut a drainage hole in the enclosure (when required) for accumulating water or snow that may enter. The drainage location must provide adequate flow of water and must not allow water or condensate to drain into conduits. The drainage opening must be no less than 1/8" and no larger than 1/4" in diameter.
