Full user manual for the Speco HRL Series Hybrid DVRs (H6HRL, H16HRL, H24HRL) — covering setup, camera management, recording configuration, playback, alarms, network access, and troubleshooting.
User manual overview for the Speco HRL Series Hybrid Digital Video Recorders — models H6HRL (6-channel), H16HRL (16-channel), and H24HRL (24-channel). These hybrid DVRs support a mix of TVI analog and IP camera inputs on the same recorder.
Video output supports CVBS/VGA/HDMI simultaneously or independently. Audio input accepts microphone/pickup; audio output connects to headphones or a sound box.
On first boot, the EZ Setup wizard walks through basic configuration (date/time, network, disk, camera add) — accessible any time afterward from the Main Interface Setup Panel. Cameras can be added quickly in batch via "Quickly Add" or individually edited under Camera Management.
Formula: Recording Capacity (MB) = Bitrate (Kbps) ÷ 1024 ÷ 8 × 3600 × Recording Hours/Day × Storage Days × Channel Count
| Bitrate (Kbps) | Used Space (MB/Hour) | Used Space (MB/Day) |
|---|---|---|
| 10240 | 4500 | 108,000 |
| 8192 | 3600 | 86,400 |
| 4096 | 1800 | 43,200 |
| 2048 | 900 | 21,600 |
| 1024 | 450 | 10,800 |
| 512 | 225 | 5,400 |
Example: a 32-channel DVR recording 24 hrs/day for 30 days with dual-stream (4096Kbps main + 1024Kbps sub) needs ~49.45TB raw, or ~55TB accounting for ~10% formatting loss.
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Can't find the HDD | Check power/SATA cables; use the supplied power adapter (some 1U cases need its exact power); confirm HDD compatibility; the HDD may have failed. |
| No image in some/all camera windows | Confirm camera resolution is supported; check network cables/params for IP cameras; check analog camera connections; confirm network switch is functioning. |
| No screen output after boot | Check HDMI/VGA cable; ensure the monitor supports 1280×1024, 1920×1080, or 3840×2160 — the DVR can't auto-adapt below 1280×1024. |
| Forgot password | Admin password: use "Edit Security Question" at login (contact your dealer if you forgot the answer). Other users: reset by admin via Edit User. |
| Can't add max number of IP cameras | Check remaining bandwidth (e.g. 16CH supports up to 120Mbps) — lower camera bitrates to free bandwidth, or use "Quickly Add" for batch adding. |
| DVR won't record | Confirm HDD is formatted; confirm record schedule is set (manual mode won't auto-record); check if disk is full (enable recycle recording); confirm a disk is assigned to the camera's disk group; HDD may have failed. |
| Can't access DVR remotely via IE | Requires IE8+; disable firewall/antivirus temporarily to test; check the allow/block IP list under Account settings. |
| ActiveX won't download | In IE: Internet Options → Security → Custom Level → enable all "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" sub-options. Also check other browser plug-ins/antivirus blocking it. |
| Playing backup files | Private-format backups include an RPAS player (RPAS.zip) — install it, then open the backed-up folder. AVI-format backups play in any standard video player. Web-exported backups are AVI-only. |
