SpeakerCraft IRE-2.0 — Dual IR Emitter Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the SpeakerCraft IRE-2.0 Dual IR Emitter — a two-emitter infrared repeater accessory using SpeakerCraft's EZ-Docker™ mounting port, for controlling IR-controlled components hidden inside cabinets or racks.

Description

The IRE-2.0 is the dual-emitter version of the IRE-1.0. It features a unique EZ-Docker™ port that permits instant removal of the emitter when rearranging or servicing components. An improved adhesive reduces callbacks for reattachment of "fallen emitters." The case can also be taken apart so the tiny internal emitter can be placed inside a component when desired. High IR output from the top curved surface allows the emitter to be mounted on a nearby surface — below, above, or on a cabinet door — rather than directly on the component's sensor, where conditions permit.

Attachment

1. Locate the component's IR sensor window and thoroughly clean it of fingerprints or other greasy substances.
2. Peel the protective layer off the EZ-Docker™ port's adhesive backing.
3. Orient the port vertically and press it over the center of the component's sensor window. Press and hold for several seconds to ensure maximum adhesive contact.
4. Insert the 3.5mm plug into an Emitter jack on a SpeakerCraft Terminator or other IR source.
5. Slide the emitter from the top down into the EZ-Docker™ port — you should feel it "snap" into place. (To remove, push upward until it "pops" out.)

Caution: Do not plug into an emitter jack that is set to Blaster Power (BL ON) or to the HIGH OUT of other connecting blocks — doing so will smoke the emitters.

Notes

• Note 1: If you have trouble finding the component's IR sensor, try using a flashlight; the owner's manual may also help, or contact the manufacturer directly.
• Note 2: You may attach the emitter without the EZ-Docker™ port by using one of the spare adhesives (included) directly on the bottom surface of the IRE-2.0 shell.
• Note 3: If you need to remove and reattach the EZ-Docker™ port or emitter, use a fresh adhesive (included) before reattaching.
• Note 4: The two emitters on the IRE-2.0 are wired in series. If you cut one off, you must short the cut-off wires together for the remaining emitter to operate.
• Note 5: The emitter shell and EZ-Docker™ port, though dark in appearance, are transparent to infrared — this allows IR commands to pass through them, permitting local handheld remote control as well as control through the IRE-2.0.

Typical Installation

A typical setup places an IRC-3.0 shelf-top IR receiver (aimed by a handheld remote) at the front of a rack, connected to an AT-1.0 Amplified Terminator Unit, which distributes IR commands via IRE-1.0 and IRE-2.0 emitters to individual hidden components (e.g., a satellite receiver, VCR, and A/V receiver) whose IR sensor windows are otherwise inaccessible. Power for the Terminator comes from a PS-1.0 power supply (120V AC, unswitched).

Other Emitter Placements

Since the IRE-2.0 has high output from its curved top, it can be attached to other nearby surfaces where installation permits, such as:

• Directly to the IR sensor window
• To the inside of a cabinet door, directly opposite the IR sensor window
• To a shelf directly below or above the IR sensor window

Use the higher power setting (not Blaster Power) on the connecting block or terminator, if provided.

Some installers prefer to place the emitter completely inside a component, as close as possible to the IR sensor, for a clean external appearance — in some cases the whole emitter housing fits. In tighter chassis spaces, it may be necessary to remove the internal emitter from its shell: use the thin edge of a knife to carefully pry the lower cover from the shell, gently ease the tiny emitter and lead out, and use heat-shrink tubing or other insulating material to prevent shorting of the exposed leads.

Limited 5-Year Warranty

SpeakerCraft Inc. warrants to the original retail purchaser only that this product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 5 years, provided it was purchased from a SpeakerCraft Authorized Dealer.

Defective products must be shipped, together with proof of purchase, prepaid and insured, to the SpeakerCraft Authorized Dealer from whom they were purchased, or to the SpeakerCraft factory. Freight-collect shipments will be refused; ship in the original container to minimize transit-damage risk (risk of loss/damage in transit is borne by the purchaser). If the unit is confirmed defective in materials or workmanship, SpeakerCraft or the Authorized Dealer will repair or replace it at no charge (or, if the model is unavailable, substitute a current model of equal or greater value — a mounting-surface modification, if required, is the purchaser's responsibility).

This warranty excludes damage from accident, disaster, misuse, abuse, negligence, inadequate packing/shipping, commercial use, excess voltage input, unauthorized service/repair/modification, and normal cosmetic deterioration from environmental conditions. The warranty is void if the serial number has been removed, tampered with, or defaced. This warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties; SpeakerCraft is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow exclusion of consequential damages or limitation on the duration of implied warranties, so these limitations may not apply to you.
