Somfy Telis 1 Chronis RTS — Installation & Operating Manual

Full installation and operating manual for the Somfy Telis 1 Chronis RTS remote control transmitter, which lets you control an end-product or group of end-products in the same room using Radio Technology Somfy (RTS). Ref. 5115958A.

Overview

The Telis 1 Chronis RTS can be used in two modes:

• Manual mode: manually control the end-products assigned to the remote control transmitter. Automatic programming is deactivated in this mode ("OFF" is displayed).
• Automatic mode: automatically control the end-products by executing one up command and one down command per day. Days are pre-programmed at the factory but can be modified. A second program called "WORK" can be set and assigned to one or more days so different daily/weekend schedules can be programmed.

Safety & Liability

• Read this guide carefully before installing and using this product. This Somfy product must be installed by a professional motorization and home automation installer/dealer.
• The installer must comply with local codes and standards and inform customers of operating/maintenance conditions.
• Any use outside the scope of application defined by Somfy is prohibited and voids the warranty.
• Never begin installation before checking compatibility of this product with associated devices and accessories.

Specific Safety Advice

• Avoid impacts. Do not drop the unit.
• Do not spill liquid on the product or immerse it in liquid.
• Do not use abrasive products or solvents to clean the product — its surface can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Buttons and Display

• Red indicator light — radio transmission indicator.
• Selection button — confirms parameters, switches between manual/automatic mode.
• Arrow buttons — navigate/modify parameters.
• Up button (c) — up, switch on, open, position, or increase lighting/heating.
• Stop/favorite button (e) — stop, or go to favorite ("my") position.
• Down button (a) — down, switch off, close, position, or reduce lighting/heating.
• PROG button — used for pairing/assigning end-products.
• Battery compartment cover on the back.
• Screen indicators: simulated presence active, current time, set mode active, low battery symbol, days of the week, programmed automatic commands (1 or 2 per day), and the time selected for automatic execution.

Set-Up

Before using the Telis 1 Chronis RTS, it's recommended that each motor is pre-programmed in advance using an individual Telis 1 RTS control point, and that end limits of each motor are set. The Telis 1 Chronis RTS can also be used for motor set-up operations (limit adjustment, etc.) like any RTS remote transmitter.

4.1. Battery Installation

1. Remove the battery cover from the back of the Telis 1 Chronis RTS.
2. Insert 2 AAA (LR3) 1.5V batteries following the indicated polarity.
3. Replace the battery compartment cover.
4. If necessary, wake or turn on the unit by briefly pressing any button.

Never use rechargeable batteries. Replace the batteries when the low-battery symbol appears on the display. If there's no power supply for an extended period (batteries discharged/removed), the general/manual parameters will need to be reset — however automatic orders remain saved in memory.

4.2. Setting the General Parameters

When batteries are first installed, "Remote control settings" mode activates directly ("SET" and "YEAR" flash on screen). At each stage the parameter to set flashes — press the arrow buttons to modify it, then briefly press the selection button to save and move to the next parameter. This mode can be deactivated at any time with a long press of the selection button; only confirmed parameters are saved.

Parameters appear in this order:

1. YEAR (current year)
2. MONTH (number of current month)
3. DAY (number of current day)
4. TIME (current hour)
5. TIME (minutes)
6. AREA (country of residence)*
7. WORK (daily/weekend)**
8. Press and hold selection button to confirm the last parameter and return to automatic mode.

* AREA: the unit is pre-programmed to automatically switch between summer/winter time based on country of residence. Select US or EU, or choose OFF to deactivate automatic daylight-savings change and do it manually.

** WORK: select work days to program using the arrow buttons, then briefly press the selection button to confirm; by default, days not circled become rest/weekend days.

4.3. Assigning or Deleting an End-Product

The procedure for assigning and deleting an end-product is the same, and can only be done in manual mode.

1. If in automatic mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to manual mode.
2. Press and hold the PROG button on the individual RTS control point already programmed until the end-product jogs (moves back and forth): programming mode activates for 2 minutes.
3. Briefly press the PROG button on the Telis 1 Chronis RTS: the end-product jogs and is assigned to (or deleted from) the Telis 1 Chronis RTS.
4. To assign/delete additional end-products, repeat steps 1–3.

4.4. Programming the Days of the Week

In automatic mode, the unit sends an automatic up and down command to one or more groups of end-products for each day of the week. These commands can be:

• the same every day (factory setting) — no day shown on screen, or
• divided into two groups of days (work days / rest days), e.g. 5 work days with the same times and 2 rest days with different times.

4.4.1. Quick Setting of an Automatic Command

1. If in manual mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to automatic mode.
2. Press the arrow keys to select the up or down command to edit (for all days, or groups of days if work/rest days are configured).
3. Press and hold for more than 10 seconds the up button to modify an up command, or the down button to modify a down command; "SET" is displayed and the order flashes 3 times. Release when "SET" disappears — the current time is recorded as that automatic order.
4. To quickly store another automatic order, repeat starting at step 1.

4.4.2. Editing an Automatic Command

1. If in manual mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to automatic mode.
2. Press the arrow keys to select the up or down order to edit.
3. Press and hold the selection button until "SET" appears: "Automatic command programming" mode activates and "EDIT" flashes.
4. Briefly press the selection button; the hour of the selected order flashes.
5. Change the hour with the arrow buttons.
6. Briefly press the selection button to confirm the hour; the minutes flash.
7. Change the minutes with the arrow buttons.
8. Briefly press the selection button to confirm the time, exit "EDIT" mode, and return to automatic mode.

4.4.3. Deleting an Automatic Command

1. If in manual mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to automatic mode.
2. Press the arrow keys to select the order to delete.
3. Press and hold the selection button until "SET" appears; "EDIT" flashes.
4. Press an arrow button to change menu until "DELET" flashes.
5. Briefly press the selection button to confirm the deletion, exit "EDIT" mode, and return to automatic mode.

5. Installation

Check the radio range before installing the Telis 1 Chronis RTS wall mount. Radio range is 65 to 100 feet in open air.

1. Select a location for the wall mount.
2. Mark the screw locations (vertical spacing: 40 mm).
3. Drill then secure the wall mount with the included screws (use anchors if required).
4. Fit the screw cover.

Warning: The use of radio appliances (e.g. Hi-Fi radio headphones) operating on the same frequency may cause interference and reduce the product's performance. Never install near metal surfaces, as this may reduce radio range.

6. Operation

To switch from manual to automatic mode (or back), briefly press the selection button.

6.1. Manual Mode

Used to send an occasional order to the end-products, and to deactivate automatic command programming.

• Manual control: briefly press the up, stop/favorite, or down button for the desired order. When an intermediate position has been programmed and the end-product is stopped, briefly pressing stop/favorite activates the end-product to the favorite ("my") position.
• Changing or deleting an end-product: see "Assigning or deleting an end-product" above.

6.2. Automatic Mode

Used to automatically control end-products according to programmed times/days. Example: at 6:45 AM, an up command opens all roller shades/blinds on the ground floor for sunlight; at 8:00 PM, a down command closes all end-products to protect the house from cold.

• Program automatic commands for each day of the week (see "Programming the days of the week").
• In automatic mode, the current time and next scheduled automatic command are displayed.
• To view all programmed automatic commands, scroll using the arrow buttons.
• To stop an automatic command currently executing, press the stop button. You can also press the up/stop/down buttons directly in automatic mode.

6.2.1. Modifying the Days of the Week Programming

See "Programming the days of the week" section above.

6.2.2. Simulated Presence Function

In automatic mode, "Simulated Presence" (Vacation Mode) randomly modifies the execution time of programmed automatic commands within a range of 0 to 30 minutes. Recommended to simulate your presence when away from home.

1. If in manual mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to automatic mode.
2. Press both arrow buttons simultaneously: the symbol appears — "simulated presence" is activated.
3. Press both arrow buttons simultaneously again: the symbol disappears — the function is deactivated. (Switching to manual mode also automatically deactivates it; reactivate as needed when returning to automatic mode.)

6.2.3. Modifying the General Parameters

General parameters of the remote can only be modified in automatic mode.

1. If in manual mode, briefly press the selection button to switch to automatic mode.
2. Press and hold the selection button until "SET" and "YEAR" appear on screen (> 7 sec.): "Remote control settings" mode activates, and the year flashes as the first parameter.
3. Follow the steps in "Setting the general parameters" above.
