    Installation instructions for the Somfy SDN (RS485) Module for Drapery Motors (Cat. No. 1811129) — converts Somfy Digital Network (SDN) commands to dry contact motor control commands for Somfy Glydea® and Irismo™ drapery motors, allowing integration into SDN systems.

    Introduction

    The SDN (RS485) module receives Somfy Digital Network commands and converts them to dry contact motor control commands for Somfy Glydea® and Irismo™ drapery motors. It requires low voltage power from the SDN bus line and is shown installed in a Glydea® motor head.

    Contents: SDN (RS485) module, with Power Plug 120V AC, Cat5 Cable SDN Bus, RJ45 Modular Plug, LED, and Reset Button.

    Safety

    • This Somfy product must be installed by a professional motorization and home automation installer.
    • Before installation, check that this product is compatible with the associated equipment and accessories.
    • The installer must comply with current standards and legislation in the country of installation and inform customers of operating/maintenance conditions.
    • Any use outside the sphere of application specified by Somfy is not approved — such use, or failure to comply with these instructions, will invalidate the warranty.

    Note: it is not recommended to use a Cat5e cable with a boot or strain relief, as it will not fit inside the motor casing.

    Initial Setup

    Initial programming of the module must be completed before installing into an existing SDN or ILT system:

    1. Connect the SDN module directly to a Somfy Bus and Sensor Station Power Supply (#1822440).
    2. Ensure the appropriate Somfy Digital Network Motor Configuration Software is downloaded and installed on your computer for either Legacy ILT systems or SDN systems.
    3. Connect the computer running the configuration software to the Power Supply using a USB to RS485 converter (#9015260).

    Assign Address

    Download the latest Somfy Digital Network Motor Configuration software from somfysystems.com (use Legacy Motor Configuration Software v3.5.6 for legacy ILT systems). A USB to RS485 converter (#9015260) is required.

    1. Open the Somfy Digital Network Motor Configuration software and select the correct COM port.
    2. Click CONNECT.
    3. Click "Get MTR Addr" — the default address 103254 (or ABCDEF for legacy software) appears if not yet programmed.
    4. Assign a unique 6-digit hex address (A-F, 0-9) to Group 1. This generates the motor address for the module.
    5. Optionally assign up to 5 more Group Addresses (locations 2–6) — these must be any hex address except FFFFFF or 000000 (default is FFFFFF).
    6. Click "Set" and allow 10 seconds for data transfer.
    7. Click "Get MTR Addr" again and note the converted address — this is used to communicate with the module once installed.
    8. Click "Get" under GROUP ADDRESSES to verify the group addresses are set correctly.
    9. Programming is complete; the module can now be installed in a system.

    Get Commands

    Download the latest SDN String Calculator software from somfysystems.com (USB to RS485 converter #9015260 required).

    1. Click "Group Motor Address" and enter the motor address just assigned.
    2. Click "All Commands," then "Calculate" — all command strings fill in automatically.

    Only the following commands can be used with the Glydea motor: UP, STOP, and DOWN.

    Reset to Default

    To reset the motor address back to default (103254, or ABCDEF for legacy), press and hold the reset button until the LED turns on.

    Operating Procedure

    1. Program the control with desired group addresses.
    2. Connect the SDN to DCT control via Cat-5 cable, and to the Glydea or Irismo motor via 6-conductor modular cable.
    3. Send the group command over the SDN (using the programmed motor address) to move the motor.
