    Programming guide for the Somfy SDN Power over Ethernet Gateway (#1860326) — covers system requirements, wiring, Cisco switch configuration, and software setup for controlling Somfy 24V RS485 motors over a PoE network.

    Overview

    The Power over Ethernet Gateway is a low-voltage power distribution and network-connected module that uses PoE technology to power and control Somfy® 24V RS485 motors. The device supports both the Somfy Synergy™ API and the CoAP Digital Building API, and is compatible with the Molex Transcend Network Connected System.

    System Requirements

    A PC running Windows 7 or higher is required; the firewall must be disabled while using the programming application.

    Parts Needed

    • Power over Ethernet Switch (must support IEEE 802.3bt & LLDP):
      • Cisco Catalyst CDB-8U Switch with Cisco Power Supply: CDB-MNT-FLEX-C14 (Non-Plenum) or CDB-MNT-FLEX-DIR (Plenum)

    Mounting & Wiring

    The PoE Gateway receives power through the PoE Switch. Mount the unit on either wood or drywall near the network switch. Cable/connector chain:

    1. Network cable (Unshielded Twisted CAT-5e+, TIA-568B, plastic RJ-45) — from PoE Switch to Gateway (purchased separately)

    I. Cisco Switch Configuration

    The Cisco switch should be programmed by the network administrator. Contact Cisco for advanced support.

    1. Download PuTTY from putty.org.
    2. Open the PuTTY Configuration:
      • Select the Telnet radio button.
      • Under Host Name / IP address, enter the IP address of the Cisco switch (obtained from your network administrator).
      • Under Port, leave the value as "23".
      • Click Open.
    3. In the PuTTY terminal, under User Access Verification:
      • Type the Username and press Enter (default: cisco).
      • Type the Password and press Enter (default: cisco).
      • At each prompt, type the exact commands and press Enter:
        • Switch#config t
        • Switch (config)#interface range Fa1/0/1-8
        • Switch (config-if-range)#no storm-control multicast level 50.00
        • Switch (config-if-range)#no storm-control unicast level 50.00
        • Switch (config-if-range)#no storm-control broadcast level 50.00
        • Switch (config-if-range)#end
        • Switch#wr (wait for it to finish loading)
        • Switch#config t
        • Switch (config)#coap proxy
        • Switch (config-coap-proxy)#stop
        • Switch (config-coap-proxy)#exit

    4. Cisco configuration is now complete.

    II. Computer Settings

    1. Connect a CAT-5e cable to your computer's Ethernet port and to an Ethernet port on the same network as the PoE Gateway (or connect over WiFi).
    2. Go to Network and Sharing Center → Change Adapter Settings.
    3. Right-click the adapter you're using → Properties.
    4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Properties.
    5. Select your IP setting: choose "Obtain an IP address automatically" if the network provides DHCP, or "Use the following IP address" if your network administrator gave you a static IP.
    6. Click OK on both Properties screens, then return to Change Adapter Settings.
    7. Right-click the adapter again → Status.
    8. Click Details and note your computer's current IP address (you'll need this in the application).

    I. Settings

    • Open the Somfy PoE Gateway application, then open the Settings section from the left-hand menu.
    • IP Address Range: manually change to search for gateways in a specified range (e.g. 192.168.128.1–255).
    • LLDP (Watts): only change if using a 100 Watt switch.
    • Enable 60 Watt Support: always set to Enabled.
    • Multicast Discovery Control: always set to Enabled.
    • Computer's IP Address: displays your computer's current IP — verify it matches the address you noted earlier.
    • Click Save to complete. All preparation is now complete — you're ready to program the motors on your PoE Gateway.

    II. Devices — Searching for PoE Gateways

    • Click the magnifying glass button at the top of the Devices page to list all PoE Gateways found on the network (gateways with motors connected appear first, followed by those without).
    • Click the Advanced Search button to change the IP range searched.
    • The triangle button expands/collapses details for each Gateway. Triangle color indicates status: RED = offline, GREEN = online.
    • Each Gateway row shows its IP address, and a Static/Dynamic toggle for IP addressing mode.
    • Main Control buttons (control all motors on a Gateway): Up arrow (send to upper limit), Down arrow (send to lower limit), X (stop), % (send to a specified position).
    • Groups button opens the grouping window (see Grouping the Motors below).
    • The number after "Groups" indicates the Gateway's firmware version.
    • Gear button opens the Options tab: Remove (removes the Gateway from the current screen — it reappears on next search), Reset (power-cycles the Gateway), Wink (jogs all motors up/down briefly), Control Grouped Motors, and Upgrade Firmware (requires the new firmware file on your PC first).
    • Motor Labels section lets you rename each motor.
    • Secondary Control buttons control one motor individually: Up, Down, X (stop), % (position).
    • Priority section sets which motor moves first/second/third/fourth within a group.
    • ID section shows the factory ID assigned to each motor — this cannot be changed.

    Controlling the Motors — Grouping the Motors

    • Click the Groups button on the Devices page to open the Group Priority window.
    • Group numbers for the Gateway are listed down the left side; motor names appear across the top.
    • Use the drop-downs to assign each motor's priority within a group (e.g. Group 4 could move "Motor Left" first, "Motor 1" second, "Motor 3" third, and "Motor 2" last).
    • Click Save to save changes.
    • Click Control Grouped Motors to open the testing window — select a group and use the Up/Down/Stop/percentage buttons at the bottom to test movement. No save is needed here, it's a testing area only.
    • Note: Maximum of 5 groups per Gateway.

    Reports & Help

    From the left-hand menu, open the Reports section to generate a .CSV integration report for all Gateways. Open the Help section to view a PDF copy of this Programming Guide for on-site programming or navigation support.
