    User instructions for the Skylink Model 39 universal garage door remote control — a universal transmitter that can be programmed to work with most major garage door opener brands.

    Overview

    The Skylink Model 39 universal garage door remote control requires three programming stages to work with your existing garage door opener:

    1. Frequency switch — select the correct frequency depending on your garage door opener brand.
    2. Brand jumpers — set the brand jumpers to the correct position depending on your opener's brand.
    3. Code programming — program the Model 39's connectors to match your opener's existing code (either by learning the code directly, or by manually setting DIP-switch-equivalent connectors).

    Step 1 — Set the Frequency Switch

    Locate the frequency key on the top of the transmitter and set it to the position matching your opener's brand and region (USA or Canada), per the table below.

    Step 2 — Set the Brand Jumper

    Open the battery compartment with a coin to access the two brand jumpers (columns A and B). Set each jumper "+" (up), "-" (down), or "0"/neutral (fully removed) according to the brand group table below.

    *Note: For Genie Intellicode™, if group 3 doesn't work, try A="+" and B="-".

    For brand groups 1–3: proceed to Step 3 (Learn the Code). For brand groups 4–8: skip Step 3 and proceed directly to Step 4 (Set the Code Connectors).

    Step 3 — Learn the Code (Groups 1–3 only)

    If your existing opener belongs to group 1, 2, or 3, locate the "Learn" button on the opener unit (the motor unit mounted on your garage ceiling). Press and hold the Learn button for approximately 2 seconds — the LED next to it lights up. Then press the button on the Model 39 to activate it. The opener's LED will blink and then turn off, confirming the Model 39 is now programmed to your existing opener and will operate your garage door. Refer to the Battery section for battery maintenance.

    Step 4 — Set the Code Connectors (Groups 4–8 only)

    If your opener's brand belongs to groups 4–8, you'll need to manually program the correct code so the Model 39 works with your existing opener. There are 12 code connectors arranged in 12 columns (numbered 1–12), each corresponding to one connector.

    • Find the existing code on your current transmitter or receiver — either on the small DIP switch column on the opener/receiver, or matching your existing transmitter's switches.
    • Set each Model 39 connector to match the corresponding switch position on your existing transmitter or receiver:
      • If the existing switch is "+", "ON", or "CLOSED" → set the Model 39 connector to "+".
      • If the existing switch is "-", "OFF", or "OPEN" → set the Model 39 connector to "-".
      • If your existing transmitter has fewer than 12 switches, only set the first corresponding connectors; leave the remaining posts blank/removed (neutral "0").
    • Press the transmitter button. If the garage door does not open, invert all connectors on the Model 39 ("+" becomes "-" and vice versa).
    • Brand-specific connector position ranges (from the manual's reference table): Linear and M-O-M use positions 1–8 (+/-); Stanley (310, Canada) and Stanley (300) use positions 1–10 (+/-, with 11/12 set to +/-); Multi-Code uses positions 1–10 (+/-, with 11/12 set to +/-); Chamberlain, Lift-Master, Sears, Wayne Dalton, Master Mechanic use positions 1–9 (+, 0/neutral, or -); Genie (9-position) uses 1–9 (+/-); Genie (12-position) uses 1–12 (+/-); Overhead uses 1–9 (+, 0, or -); Martec/Teckey uses 1–10 (+/-, with 11/12 set to +); Pulsar/Allister/Allstar uses 1–9 (+, 0, or -).
    • To move a connector, slide an opened paperclip under the side of a connector and lift it off; to reinstall, place the connector over the two chosen posts and press down with your finger.

    If your opener is made by Chamberlain, Sears, Lift-Master, Wayne Dalton, Pulsar, or Master Mechanic and your existing transmitter has 3-position switches ("+", "0", "-"): match the Model 39 connectors to the same positions. If your existing transmitter has only 3 buttons and uses the large button to open the door, set connector #1 to "-"; if it uses the middle button, set connector #1 to "0"/neutral; if it uses the smaller left button, set connector #1 to "+". If your Chamberlain/Sears/Lift-Master has 9 DIP switches, match connectors 1–9 and remove the last 3 (10, 11, 12). If it has only 8 DIP switches, match connectors 2–9 and remove connectors 1, 10, 11, 12.

    Operation

    To operate the Model 39 with your garage door opener, simply press the button on the Model 39.

    Battery

    Uses one included 12-volt alkaline battery (size 23A).

    Compatibility Note

    If the Skylink remote fails to activate your garage door opener, it's possible your specific GDO and/or opener manufacturer isn't listed in the compatibility chart. The solution is the Skylink Universal Remote Control UR-100 (primarily for older units).

    Warning

    If this transmitter opens other garage doors in your neighborhood, change all the codes on your transmitters and receiver. Do NOT allow children to use the transmitter without adult supervision — children can injure themselves or others with the garage door.

    Note: Transmission range may be reduced when used with a metal garage door.

    If, within one year from the date of purchase, this product becomes defective (except batteries) due to a manufacturing or materials defect, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge.
