Getting Started guide for the Simply Automated DKIT-02 Lamp Starter Kit lighting control system.
Getting Started guide for the Simply Automated DKIT-02 Lamp Starter Kit — a pre-configured SimplySmart™ Series lighting control kit with 2 lamp modules and a 4-button tabletop scene controller. No computer programming required.
Helpful hint: If tapping a button doesn't turn on a lamp, check that the lamp's own switch is in the "on" position. Taps should be quick to ensure contact registers at the base sensor.
Both lamps can still be operated manually at any time using their own switches. Lamp modules ship pre-set to turn on at 100% brightness.
Note: Compact fluorescent or fluorescent lighting cannot be dimmed and should only be used at the 100% level — do not attempt to change dimming level for fluorescent lamps.
Each lamp module has a unique ID number printed on the back — for this Lamp Starter Kit (DKIT-02), the modules are ID #4 and #5. This matters for use with the optional Scheduler-Timer accessory.
Each button controls a "scene" that can be re-programmed from its factory preset (Button 1 = lamp #1 on/off, Button 2 = lamp #2 on/off, Button 3 = both lamps on/off, Button 4 = both lamps off). Simply Automated recommends leaving Buttons 3 and 4 as-is since all devices in the SimplySmart™ Series share this "all on / all off" convention (useful at entry, exit, or bedside).
Caution: Never insert a metal object (e.g. a paperclip) into the module while programming and while it's connected to power.
The same three-step pattern (hold desired level on controller → cycle program switch on the module → confirm with 7 quick taps) applies to Button 2, and to Button 3 (repeat once per lamp module if you want different dimming levels for each). The Tabletop Controller can be inadvertently placed into program mode by tapping Button 1 five times; the indicator blinks green for 5 minutes. To exit program mode early, quickly tap the lamp module's program switch two times.
The Pre-Configured SimplySmart™ Series supports expansion up to 10 total dimmers/lamp modules controlled with one-touch convenience, combining the Dimmer Starter Kit (DKIT-01, includes 2 dimmers plus a Deluxe Dimmer with 4-button scene controller) with the Lamp Starter Kit and additional standard dimmers, lamp modules, or tabletop controllers as needed.
| Part Number | Description |
|---|---|
| UML7 / UML8 | Lamp Modules |
| US1W9 / US1W10 | Dimmers |
| US2TP11 | Tabletop Controller (4-button scene control) |
| US2W12 | Deluxe Dimmer (4-button scene control) |
| UCS-01 | Scheduler-Timer accessory — automatically turns indoor/outdoor security or pathway lighting on/off; includes dimming (10-90%), random "vacation mode," and a built-in celestial clock that computes sunrise/sunset and daylight saving adjustments. No PC connection required — set time, zip code, Network ID (250 by default), and per-device ID. |
Note: only one of each pre-configured accessory part number can be ordered per home installation.
If you've tested each dimmer's rocker and it works, but the tabletop buttons don't turn on all devices, your home's circuits may be out of phase. Homes have a 220V feed to the main panel, split into two 110V phases (A and B) — a phase coupler bridges the two phases so signals reach every device.
| Model | Description |
|---|---|
| ZPCI-P30A | Plug-in Inverting Phase Coupler, fits a standard NEMA 10-30 220VAC clothes dryer outlet |
| ZPCI-W | Wire-in Inverting Phase Coupler |
| ZPCI-B | Breaker Panel Inverting Phase Coupler |
The default Network ID for the Pre-Configured Series is 250 — needed when programming the optional Scheduler-Timer.
For advanced users, Simply Automated's Custom Expansion Series supports up to 250 devices using a PC and UPStart software, including single-rocker dimmers, deluxe dimmers (up to 8 buttons), lamp/appliance modules, an 8-button tabletop pedestal, wall receptacles, fixture relays/dimmers, and scheduler-timers. Controls lighting and 120VAC appliances, heaters, fans, motors, or pumps, with programmable dimming rates (1 second to 4 hours) and an energy-saving countdown timer function.
