Setup, inclusion/exclusion, association, and factory reset instructions for the Ring Motion Sensor, a Z-Wave motion detector for Ring Alarm systems.

Adding the Sensor to a Z-Wave Network (Inclusion)

The Ring Motion Sensor can be added via Smart Start or Classic inclusion mode.

    Smart Start Inclusion Steps

    1. Initiate the add-sensor flow in the Ring Alarm mobile app and follow the guided instructions.
    2. Scan the QR code on the sensor's package or on the back of the sensor.
    3. Pull the battery tab on the sensor.
    4. When inclusion completes, the LED on the sensor will glow solid blue, then go out.
    5. Test the sensor: place it in an unoccupied room, leave for at least four minutes, then return and pass in front of it — the LED will flash if motion is detected.

    Classic Inclusion Steps

    1. Initiate the add-sensor flow in the Ring Alarm mobile app and follow the guided instructions.
    2. Select "Add Manually" and enter the 5-digit DSK PIN found on the sensor's package or scan the QR code on the back of the sensor.
    3. Pull the battery tab on the sensor.
    4. When inclusion completes, the LED on the sensor will glow solid blue, then go out.
    5. Test the sensor as described above.

    Removing the Sensor (Exclusion)

    1. Initiate the remove-sensor flow in the Ring Alarm mobile app — select the settings icon on the device details page and choose "Remove Device."
    2. Open the motion sensor's cover.
    3. Remove and replace the battery quickly.

    Association / Lifeline

This sensor has two association groups of 1 node each:

    • Group 1 (Lifeline): Receives unsolicited messages for Motion Detected/Not Detected notifications, case tamper notifications, and low-battery notifications.
    • Group 2: When a node is associated, the sensor sends a basic report — 0xFF for "motion" or 0x00 for "no motion."

    Factory Reset

Use this procedure only if the network's primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

    1. Using the pointed end of a paperclip, press and hold the reset button via the reset pin hole on the back of the sensor.
    2. The blue LED will start blinking rapidly.
    3. Wait for the blue LED to stop blinking.
