Installation Guide and Owner's Manual for the PulseWorx RFWS Radio Frequency Wall Switch and RFR4 Radio Frequency Remote — wireless, battery-less control devices for a PulseWorx UPB lighting system.

    Overview

The RFWS and RFR4 are a set of wireless/battery-less control devices designed to remotely control a PulseWorx lighting system. The RFWS Radio Frequency Wall Switches provide wall-mounted rocker switch control in areas where AC power isn't conveniently available, while the RFR4 Radio Frequency Remote provides hand-held control. Both devices use EnOcean RF technology to transmit RF codes up to 50 feet, and require a PulseWorx RFI-E Radio Frequency Interface (sold separately) to translate those codes into UPB signals on the power line.

    No Batteries

The kinetic energy created by pressing the ON or OFF side of the switch/remote generates enough energy to transmit the switch event — no batteries, ever.

    Typical Uses

    • Add wall switches anywhere — on brick, glass, walls, tile, or concrete
    • Activate lights from your car as you leave or enter your driveway
    • Activate lighting scenes while relaxing on the sofa

    Installation

Designed for indoor use within 50 ft. of an RFI-E. Consider the placement carefully — walls, doors, and furniture can affect RF transmission reliability. Can be mounted on ceiling, wall, desk, or cubicle wall.

    1. Mount using screws (not supplied) through the back plate, or use double-sided tape or Velcro™.
    2. Mount the ON side of the switch on top — an arrow on the rear face points UP next to a "TOP" label, with numerical markings (1) for ON and (0) for OFF.

    Configuration & Registering Remotes

The RFWS/RFR4 only operates with an RFI-E installed. PCS recommends UPStart Setup Software Version 5.1 Build 18 or higher for configuration. The RFI-E can learn up to eight separate RFWS or RFR4 devices.

    1. On the RFI-E: enter Learn mode by pressing and holding the push button until the Status LED blinks.
    2. On the RFI-E: tap the push button the number of times matching the remote number to assign (e.g. tap 3 times for remote #3).
    3. The RFI-E Status LED blinks red to indicate the selected remote number.
    4. On the RF Remote: single-tap one of the buttons to transmit a signal to the RFI-E.
    5. On the RFI-E: if the signal was received and learned successfully, the Status LED will continuously blink magenta.
    6. Repeat for any other remotes to learn.
    7. On the RFI-E: exit Learn mode by pressing and holding the push button until the Status LED stops blinking.
    8. In UPStart: press the Read Device button so the Remote IDs are stored in the file.
    9. In UPStart, you may then modify the transmitted Link, the button Mode, and the action for Single-Tap, Double-Tap, Hold, and Release.

    Factory Default Settings

To restore factory defaults, place the RFI-E into SETUP mode and press the Program Button ten times rapidly. The Status LED blinks red to confirm the reset; press the Program Button twice more to stop the blinking.
