    Quick Start Guide for the PulseWorx PPC-1 Passive Phase Coupler — a device that couples UPB™ powerline signaling between Phase A and Phase B of a split-phase electrical panel.

    Function

    Most North American homes are wired on a split-phase 120/240VAC system, with circuits distributed across two phases (A and B) at the breaker panel. UPB signals sent from a device on one phase don't automatically reach devices on the other phase. The PPC-1 Passive Phase Coupler bridges this gap, coupling UPB signals between Phase A and Phase B so that UPB devices communicate reliably no matter which phase they're wired to.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician only
    • Turn off the main breaker before beginning installation
    • The PPC-1 must be installed inside a suitable junction box or equivalent enclosure — never leave connections exposed
    • Follow all applicable electrical codes and requirements, including the National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • Do not exceed the device's rated voltage/current (240VAC, 1A, 60Hz)
    • Verify power is off with a meter before touching any wiring
    • Confirm all connections are secure before restoring power

    Installation

    1. Turn off the main breaker at the electrical panel
    2. Mount the PPC-1 in a single-gang electrical junction box near the panel
    3. Connect the coupler's two bare-copper leads to breaker positions on Phase A and Phase B respectively (see wiring diagram below)
    4. Restore power at the main breaker and confirm the LED indicator on the unit illuminates

    Operation

    Once installed, the PPC-1 operates passively with no configuration or programming required — it continuously couples UPB signal energy between the two electrical phases so that PulseWorx/UPB devices on either phase can communicate with each other.
