Overview

The PIM-E is a special Powerline Interface Module containing an ELK Products built-in M1XSP Serial Port chip. This all-in-one device makes it effortless to enable the ELK M1 to communicate with a UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) lighting network via the M1 data bus, without complex cabling. Simply connect a cable from the M1 data bus to the four terminals on the PIM-E, perform an M1 data bus enrollment, and the system is ready to use.

The long-distance capability of the M1 data bus makes it possible to locate the PIM-E virtually anywhere. An optional ELK-M1DBH Data Bus Hub may be used to connect any data bus devices using Cat5/6 cables. Once installed and configured, the PIM-E operates without further user intervention. All programmed data is protected by non-volatile memory and can only be changed or deleted by reprogramming, regardless of power outage duration.

PulseWorx is powered by UPB, which uses the existing AC wiring in a home's electrical framework — no new wiring or radio frequency signals required, keeping installation costs to a minimum. Existing light switches are simply replaced with PulseWorx dimmer switches, with keypad controllers added for ease of use.

Wiring

The PIM-E connects to the RS-485 Data Bus (max. length 4000 ft; max bus devices vary by control) via four terminals: RED, GREEN, WHITE, and BLACK. If the PIM-E is the last device on the bus, terminate at the device using a 120 Ohm resistor.
