Installation instruction sheet for the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Local Source Input, model F7417-xx (available in White, Light Almond, and Ivory) — a component of the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ whole-house audio distribution system.

    Introduction

The lyriQ™ Local Source Input is an integral part of the On-Q/Legrand lyriQ™ Audio System. Combined with other lyriQ™ components and source equipment (receiver, CD player, etc.), it creates a whole-house audio system using Category 5 technology — high-quality audio distributed to remote locations over a single 8-conductor Cat 5e cable, along with infrared control of system components and system power status.

Like all lyriQ™ Audio system components, the Local Source Input is powered by the lyriQ™ Audio Distribution Module.

    Description

The lyriQ™ Local Source Input lets a system use a "local" audio input in any zone. It's wired in series with the zone's volume control — the Cat 5 run from the lyriQ™ Distribution Module terminates at the Local Source Input's input, and the Local Source Input's output connects to the volume control, using the same 110-style punchdown connections as the volume controls.

The unit senses the audio signal from a line-level source (e.g. a CD player); if active, the local source takes priority over the main source and is heard in that zone. When the local source becomes inactive or is unplugged, the main source resumes in the zone within 30 seconds.

    Installation

Best done in two stages during new construction: Rough-in (before drywall) and Trim-out (after drywall is installed and painted). The unit is typically mounted at electrical outlet height — measure the nearest box on the same wall and match the J-box height. Maintain separation of Class 2 cable from power wiring.

    Rough-in Steps

    1. Run Cat 5 cable from the lyriQ™ Single Source 4-Zone Distribution Module (in the enclosure) to the single-gang box that will contain the Local Source Input.
    2. Run Cat 5 cable from that single-gang box to the volume control location.

    Trim-out Steps

Use a standard punchdown tool with a 110-style blade; keep less than ½" of untwisted pairs, and ensure the 110 blade cuts excess conductor completely.

    1. Punch down the prewired Cat 5e cable from the lyriQ™ Distribution Module onto the 110 strip labeled "INPUT" at the bottom of the unit.
    2. Punch down the prewired Cat 5e cable to the lyriQ™ Volume Control onto the 110-style block labeled "OUTPUT" at the top of the unit.
    3. The JP1 header next to the "OUTPUT" 110 strip defaults to the "KNOB" position (pins 2 and 3 jumpered) — suitable for knob-only or mixed knob/keypad systems. For keypad-volume-control-only systems, move JP1 to the "KEYPAD" position (pins 1 and 2 jumpered).
    4. Mount into a standard single-gang box using the included screws, with a standard Decorator-style cover.

    Important Safety Precautions

    • Read all instructions carefully before installing the lyriQ™ Audio System.
    • Do not attempt to service, move, or change any system component unless qualified to do so.
    • Installation must be performed by a qualified installer conforming to all local building and electrical codes.
    • Do not apply power to the lyriQ™ Audio System until all components are installed and all wiring is properly terminated.
    • Before terminating, changing, or un-installing any wiring, turn off power to the lyriQ™ Audio System (located in the enclosure) and unplug the power transformer.
    • Install each component away from heat sources (HVAC ducts/registers, stoves, etc.).
    • Do not expose indoor-use components to moisture — doing so can create electrical hazards, render components unusable, and voids the warranty.
    • Clean cover plates only with a damp cloth. Do not use vacuum cleaners, liquid, or aerosol cleaners.
