    Overview

    The On-Q/Legrand DA1101 is an 802.11n Wireless Access Point (N-WAP) designed to integrate into structured wiring enclosures. With built-in IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless capability, the N-WAP allows computers and wireless-enabled devices to connect without additional cabling — with 802.11n support, files transfer at up to 300Mbps with doubled radio coverage. The N-WAP supports WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK encryption, plus WPS configuration (PBC/PIN) for easy secure connections.

    The DA1101 has a reset button, accessible through either cover or with the cover off, that resets to factory default (IP address 192.168.40.253) when held for 10 seconds.

    Physical Installation

    1. Run a Category 5 cable from the triple-gang or single-gang electrical box at the intended DA1101 location to the POE module in the structured wiring enclosure.
    2. Confirm the Power Supply is not connected to the POE module yet.
    3. Pull the Cat 5 cable through the supplied triple-gang bracket (or a modified single-gang bracket) and attach it to the electrical box with the supplied screws.
    4. Terminate the Cat 5 cable with an RJ45 plug and connect it to the RJ45 jack on the DA1101. Snap the DA1101 into the mounting bracket by inserting the two tabs into the bracket slots and tilting until flush.
    5. For a triple-gang installation, align the bracket feet with the indentions inside the round cover and snap it in place (the cover only fits correctly in one orientation). For single-gang, hang the top of the rectangular cover on the bracket and tilt to snap in place.
    6. In the enclosure, terminate the other end of the Cat 5 cable with an RJ45 plug and connect it to the POE output jack. Run a Cat 5 jumper from the POE input jack to a local router port.
    7. Plug the power supply into the POE module and an AC outlet, then proceed to network configuration.

    Network Configuration

    The DA1101 is a DHCP device by default — it automatically gets an IP address from the router it's attached to, defaults to AP mode (acting as a wireless Access Point), and requires no configuration for basic operation. By default, no security is configured, meaning anyone within range can access your internet connection — configure security via the web interface if needed.

    To configure: run the “DA-Discovery.exe” utility (included on CD) from a PC set for DHCP and connected to the same router. Click “Refresh” to list attached devices including the DA1101, then click “Connect to Device.” Log on with username “admin” and password “admin” (default). You can then run the Setup Wizard or configure settings manually.

    Operation Modes

    • AP Mode (default): the N-WAP acts as a wireless hub; the attached router provides DHCP addressing to wireless clients.
    • Client Mode: a second N-WAP connects wirelessly to the original N-WAP and serves a wired LAN/PC directly (no wireless devices) — useful for locations within wireless range but not easily hardwired (e.g., a boathouse or guard shack).
    • Repeater Mode (Client + AP Mode): similar to Client Mode, but the second N-WAP also supports wireless devices within its own range, extending overall coverage.
    • Router Mode: not covered in this manual, as most installations already use a separate router (e.g., the DA1004).

    Firewall & Security Features

    The DA1101's web interface provides Port Filtering, IP Filtering, MAC Filtering, Port Forwarding, URL Filtering, DMZ, and VLAN configuration to restrict or manage traffic between the local network and the internet.

    Management Features

    • Status/Statistics: current device status and packet counters for transmission/reception.
    • DDNS: supports hosting a website, FTP, or email server with a fixed domain name via providers like DynDNS or No-IP (in router mode).
    • Time Zone / NTP: synchronizes system time with a public NTP server.
    • Denial-of-Service Protection: configurable protection against DoS attacks that flood the connection with invalid packets/requests.
    • Log: remote log server support with categories for all logs, wireless, DoS, and remote-control events.
    • Firmware Upgrade / Save-Reload Settings: web-based firmware upgrade (do not power off during upload); save/restore configuration files; reset to factory defaults.
    • Password Setup: configures the admin web login credentials (empty username/password disables protection — not recommended).

    QoS & Routing

    QoS settings prioritize game traffic over other network traffic (FTP, web browsing), with automatic or manual uplink/downlink speed detection and per-IP/MAC bandwidth rules. Dynamic Route (RIP/OSPF protocols) and Static Route configuration are also available for advanced network topologies.

    Mounting Best Practices

    For the circular cover, use a three-gang plastic box (Pass and Seymour Slater S354RACS recommended). For the single-gang wall cover, use the Pass and Seymour Slater S122RS. In all cases, the back box should be RF-friendly construction (i.e., not metal).

    Troubleshooting

    Forgot your login username/password? Restore the DA1101 to factory defaults by pressing the Reset button for 10 seconds or more. Factory login is “admin” for both username and password.
