NuTone NWS15Z Smart Wall Switch — Quick Start Guide

Quick start guide for the NuTone NWS15Z Smart Wall Switch, a 15-amp Z-Wave certified smart 3-way wall switch for home automation.

Overview

The NWS15Z lets you control lights from a favorite home automation app. It requires a Z-Wave home automation gateway/hub (sold separately) connected to the internet. Once your gateway is set up, the switch can be added and controlled through it.

This device must be installed per the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). A qualified electrician is recommended for installation. Retain instructions for future use.

Installation Steps

1. Turn power OFF for the switch at the main circuit breaker panel
2. Remove the wall plate from the existing switch
3. Remove the mounting screws and the old switch
4. Disconnect all switch wires — confirm power to all wires in the box is off
5. If installing into a box with other switches, remove the scored tabs on the NWS15Z as needed with pliers (bend back and forth until they snap free); do not remove the outside tabs on the ends of switch groups
6. Connect all switch wires: 1 = LOAD (blue/black), 2 = NEUTRAL (white), 3 = POWER (black/black), 4 = GROUND (green)
7. Install the NWS15Z into the wall box
8. Install the wall plate (standard white included; almond trim kit sold separately)
9. Turn power back ON at the main circuit breaker panel
10. Pair the switch with your Z-Wave controller: put the gateway into Discovery/Add mode, then push the top or bottom rocker of the switch when requested by the controller to add it to your home automation system

Operation

Once added to the network, the NWS15Z operates as follows:

• Tap the top of the switch to turn ON
• Tap the bottom of the switch to turn OFF
• The LED indicates device status and flickers when transmitting commands to any group network (this behavior can be changed — see the full NWS15Z instructions)
