Network installation guide for Napco PCD-Windows, the account programming software for Napco security panel systems.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Network installation guide for Napco PCD-Windows — the account programming/database software used to manage Napco security panel accounts across a networked server/workstation environment.

    Important Considerations Before You Start

    • PCD-Windows defines the server as the PC where the account database is stored and administered. Although a full installation is performed on the server, PCD-Windows is typically not run on the server itself — it's intended to run on workstations, which retrieve and save accounts to the database directory on the server. Installing on the server is only needed to create the correct directory structure for account storage.
    • While the PCD-Windows installation/upgrade is taking place, workstations connected to the network must not run PCD-Windows. Do not run it on any workstation until all workstations have been upgraded.
    • All computers on the network must be upgraded to the latest version. Do not leave an older version running on any networked computer — this can damage the account database.
    • No two users can log on to the database at the same time with the same login name, except the master.
    • No two users can access the same account at the same time. If a failure occurs while a client is logged on and the client can't log back on, the master must log the user off.

    1. Install / Upgrade PCD-Windows on the Server

PCD-Windows must be installed/upgraded on the server first.

    New Installation

Insert the CD, follow the prompts, and accept all default settings. This automatically creates the working directory for account storage:

    C:\Program Files\Napco Security Group\Quickloader for Windows\Database\

    Upgrade

Insert the CD, follow the prompts, and accept all suggested settings.

    • If the previous default directory was accepted as C:\Program Files\Napco Security Group\Quickloader for Windows, a new \Database subdirectory is created. All existing accounts automatically move to this new subdirectory, and all newly created accounts reside there going forward: C:\Program Files\Napco Security Group\Quickloader for Windows\Database\
    • If a different directory path was specified previously (C:\<Specified Directory>\), that path remains the directory for storage of existing and newly created accounts.

    2. Install / Upgrade PCD-Windows on the Workstations

Only after PCD-Windows has been installed on the server may it be installed on the workstations. Insert the CD-ROM and follow the installation prompts.

    1. When the "Working Directory for Database Files" dialog appears, click Browse, then Network…, then Map Network Drive and browse.
    2. Browse to Network Neighborhood and find the computer designated as the server in Step 1. Click on this computer name and navigate to the working directory as specified in Step 1: \\ServerName\C:\Program Files\Napco Security Group\Quickloader for Windows\Database\ or \\ServerName\C:\<Specified Directory>\Database\
    3. When you find the correct directory, click Finish. This directs the workstation to retrieve existing accounts from — and save all newly created accounts to — that same directory.
    4. Repeat for each workstation on the network.

Once all workstations have PCD-Windows installed or upgraded, PCD-Windows must be run.

Note: The "Working Directory for Database Files" can be changed after installation by clicking File on the PCD-Windows login screen and selecting Database Selection.
