    Overview

    The AEH50 is a five-channel home theater speaker system: five 2-way magnetically-shielded satellite speakers (2.5 in woofer, 0.5 in tweeter) plus one 8 in, 100 Watt powered subwoofer with LFE input, adjustable level control, and a built-in crossover for use with speaker-level outputs. The system is expandable to 6.1 and 7.1 surround-sound with an optional additional AESS5 satellite speaker. It includes architectural-grade adjustable mounting brackets and a subwoofer input RCA cable.

    Planning & Placement

    • Left/right front channels: Place one satellite to the left and one to the right of the TV — since they're magnetically shielded, they can sit close to the TV without picture distortion.
    • Center channel: Place directly on top of, or below, the television.
    • Surround channels: Place to the left/right, to the side of or slightly behind the listening area, mounted between 4 and 7 feet high.
    • Subwoofer: Placement affects bass performance more than full-range speakers; experiment before choosing a final location. Set subwoofer volume carefully — too high causes overpowering, boomy bass, too low negates its benefit.

    Wall-Mounting the Satellites

    Each satellite has a dedicated wall bracket requiring four 1-1/2", #10 wood screws (fastened to a wall stud, or an appropriate anchor if no stud is available).

    1. Mark the mounting screw positions on the wall.
    2. Place the bracket against the wall and fasten four 1-1/2" #10 wood screws through the bracket's screw holes.
    3. Screw the bracket's post into the 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the satellite. Adjust the satellite to the desired angle and tighten the knob.

    Bracket assembly note: the ball/shaft mounting hardware (metal nut, molded nut, ball/shaft, wall bracket, and metal bar) is not included and its selection/installation is the customer's exclusive responsibility.

    Speaker Connections

    Turn off all audio-system power before connecting. Use high-quality CL2/3 rated speaker wire for in-wall runs (#18-gauge with polarity coding for outside-the-wall use; #16-gauge or heavier for longer distances). Connect each speaker's + (red) terminal to the corresponding + terminal on the amplifier/receiver, and each – (black) terminal the same way. Do not reverse polarities — doing so causes poor imaging and diminished bass response, and can cause short circuits that damage equipment.

    Dolby Digital / DTS (or other digital surround) connection

    Use the line-level input jack marked "LFE" for the Low-Frequency Effects channel, connected to the LFE/subwoofer output on the receiver. Configure the surround sound processor for "Subwoofer On" and 5.1/6.1/7.1 as appropriate; set the front left/right/center/rear speakers to "Small," and set the crossover frequency between subwoofer and mains to 120Hz or the closest setting below it.

    Dolby Pro Logic (non-digital) — Line Level

    For receivers with a subwoofer output or volume-controlled preamp (line) output: use RCA-type interconnects from the receiver's line-level subwoofer output to the subwoofer's line-level input. Do not use the LFE input on the subwoofer with Dolby Pro Logic. If the receiver only has one subwoofer output jack, use a Y-connector (not included).

    Dolby Pro Logic (non-digital) — Speaker Level

    For receivers without a subwoofer output or line-level output: connect the receiver's front left/right speaker terminals to the subwoofer's "Speaker Level In" terminals, then connect the subwoofer's "Speaker Level Out" terminals to the front left/right speakers. Connect center/surround/surround-back terminals directly to the corresponding speakers.

    Operation

    Move the Master Power switch to "•" (On) to use the subwoofer. Switch it Off if away from home for an extended period or the subwoofer won't be used. Adjust volume using the Subwoofer Level control.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Checks
    No sound from any speaker Check receiver/amp is on and playing; confirm subwoofer is plugged in and powered on; check all wiring for damage or shorts.
    No sound from center speaker Check wiring; if using Dolby Pro Logic, ensure center isn't in phantom mode; if using Dolby Digital/DTS, ensure center channel is enabled in receiver config.
    No sound from rear speakers Check wiring; ensure rear speakers enabled in receiver config; confirm 6.1/7.1 channel mode matches number of satellites in use; confirm source material is actually recorded in surround.
    Plays at low volume then shuts off as volume increases Check wiring; confirm speaker is enabled in Dolby Digital/DTS config; swap with a known-good speaker to isolate the fault to the speaker vs. the receiver/amp; check minimum impedance requirements if using multiple speaker pairs.
    Low or no bass output Verify correct polarity (+/–) on Speaker Inputs; confirm subwoofer is plugged into an active outlet and powered on; in Dolby Digital/DTS modes confirm subwoofer and LFE output are enabled.

    Warranty

    Limited 5-Year Warranty: Leviton warrants to the original consumer purchaser that the product is free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for five years from purchase date.
