    Installation instructions for the Leviton Ceiling Mounted Line Voltage Vacancy Sensor — California Title 20 Compliant — Cat. No. O3C10-MDW, O3C15-IDW, O3C20-MDW. No minimum load required; compatible with electronic and magnetic ballasts, electronic and magnetic low-voltage transformers, incandescent lamps, and fans.

    Description

    The Line Voltage Vacancy Sensor monitors the space for vacancy. Lights can be turned ON manually by pressing the low-voltage/momentary toggle switch. The sensor turns lights OFF when vacancy is detected and the delayed-off time has expired. The sensor continually analyzes and adjusts to changing conditions using microprocessor-based technology, combining ultrasonic (Doppler shift) motion detection for maximum sensitivity with infrared motion detection for higher false-triggering immunity.

    Critical Safety Warnings

    • TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH: TURN OFF POWER at the circuit breaker or fuse and TEST that power is off before wiring!
    • Install and use in accordance with appropriate electrical codes and regulations. If unsure about any part of these instructions, consult an electrician.
    • Sensors must be mounted on a vibration-free surface.
    • Do not terminate using data-type wire, such as Cat 5/5E.
    • Do not mount sensors closer than 10 feet to each other.
    • All sensors must be mounted at least 6 feet away from air vents, air handlers, and reflective surfaces (windows/mirrors).
    • Do not touch the surface of the lens — clean the outer surface with a damp cloth only.
    • DO NOT use outdoors; do not mount near gas or electric heaters.
    • If any Emergency Circuits are fed or controlled from this panel, it must be located electrically where fed from a UPS, generator, or other guaranteed source of power during emergencies and power outages. All servicing shall be performed by qualified service personnel.
    • Emergency Lighting Equipment: if used for Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment, this unit is rated for only 25°C. Apply the provided "Emergency Circuits" label to the front cover.

    Installation Overview

    Full step-by-step details with wiring diagrams are in the downloadable PDF. High-level sequence:

    1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker/fuse and confirm power is off before wiring.
    2. Identify your wiring: Line (Hot) - L1, Load - L1, Neutral - N, Manual Switch +/-, Emergency Interface +/-.
    3. Strip wires to the 3/4" (1.9cm) gauge shown; wire per specifications — Line/Neutral/Load wires (copper), #12-18 AWG, torque rating 20 lb-in; Control wires (Manual Switch/Emergency Interface), #16-26 AWG, torque rating 2.5 lb-in.
    4. Connect wires per the wiring diagram: Line to Line terminal, Neutral to Neutral terminal, Load to Load terminal, Manual Switch and Emergency Interface to their respective marked terminals (use provided tubing for insulation on Class 2 wiring).
    5. Mount the sensor — either inside a 4" octagon 2.125" deep ceiling electrical box, or inside a 4" square 1.5" deep ceiling electrical box with mud ring, using the two provided #6-32 screws and coasters.
    6. Tighten mounting screws firmly.

    Vacancy Sensor Operation

    • Delayed-Off Time: lights turn OFF if no motion is detected after a specified time, set using the Black timer knob.
    • Walk-Through Mode: if a person enters and turns lights ON with the manual switch but leaves before the default walk-through timeout of 2.5 minutes, the sensor turns lights OFF 2.5 minutes later. If they stay longer, standard operation resumes.
    • Reset Device State: resets auto-adapting settings to factory default.
    • Manual ON/OFF Switch: press the low-voltage momentary/toggle switch to turn lights ON or OFF; pressing it resets the delayed-OFF timer.
    • Emergency Interface: input intended for use with a BMS (Building Management System) or any contact closure to force lights ON in an emergency; lights stay ON until the emergency signal is cleared.
    • Manual ON: occupants must press the low-voltage switch to turn the load ON. If the sensor input re-triggers within 30 seconds after the load turns OFF, the load turns ON again automatically.

    Test Mode

    Sets the delayed-off time to 4 seconds for performing a walk test — while in test mode, the LEDs flash YELLOW once every second.

    1. Ensure power is ON.
    2. Remove the front cover.
    3. Locate dip switch 3 in Bank B (B3) — OFF from the factory.
    4. Move switch B3 to ON to enter Test mode (4-second timeout). If B3 is already ON, move it to OFF then ON.

    The timer remains in the 4-second Test mode for 15 minutes, then automatically exits and resets to the delayed-off time set by the Black timer knob. To manually exit, move switch B3 back to OFF. Entering Test mode resets all adapted settings.

    Auto Adapting

    The sensor continually analyzes the parameters of the motion detection signal and adjusts its internal operation to maximize motion detection while minimizing the effects of noise (electrical noise, air currents, temperature changes, etc.).

    • Occupancy Pattern Learning for Delayed-Off Time: the sensor automatically changes the delayed-off time in response to detected occupancy patterns — decreasing it after long periods of vacancy (energy savings) and increasing it if false-off conditions are detected.
    • Occupancy Pattern Learning for the Sensor: over a seven-day period, the sensor learns occupancy patterns of a space and adjusts sensitivity to make it less likely to turn ON during historically vacant time periods.

    LED Indicators

    RED Blinks upon PIR detection (can be disabled via B4). Solid for 3 minutes then blinks for 3 minutes during photocell manual calibration. Solid when device malfunctions.
    GREEN Blinks upon ultrasonic detection (can be disabled via B4). Solid for 24 hours during photocell auto calibration.
    YELLOW Blinks in test mode. Solid with emergency interface/BMS input on.
    BLUE Blinks when a knob setting has changed.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Cause / Solution
    Lights do not turn ON Circuit breaker or fuse has tripped.
    Lights stay ON Constant motion — reduce RED and/or GREEN knob by 25%, remove motion source. Or infrared sensor can "see" into hallway — test in Timer Test mode and walk the hallway; if lights keep coming ON, move the sensor.
    Light turns ON too long Timer setting too high — check switch settings; typical setting is 10 minutes. If LED illuminates solid RED for over 5 minutes, that indicates a device malfunction — contact technical assistance.

    Warranty

    Limited 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship under normal and proper use, from the purchase date. Leviton's only obligation is to repair or replace the product, at its option, if returned prepaid with proof of purchase within the warranty period.
