    Installation and use instructions for the Leviton DC Power Distribution Module (48212-DCS) — provides 12VDC power for up to six active devices/modules within a Leviton Structured Media™ Center (SMC) from a single 120VAC outlet.

    Description

    The DC Power Distribution Module is designed for use in the Leviton Structured Media™ Center (SMC). This module, with one Power Transformer, provides power for up to 6 active devices or modules while using only one 120VAC electrical outlet, freeing other outlets for AC devices or additional DC Power Modules.

    Note: This module will provide up to 1500 mA.

    The DC Power Distribution Module consists of removable terminal blocks, each with two positive and two negative terminal clamps. It receives its input power from an AC/DC power transformer, which plugs into a standard 120VAC electrical outlet (such as Leviton's AC Supply Module, PN# 47605-DP). This module should be located at the bottom of your SMC.

    The module provides a regulated +12VDC output with a current capacity of 1500mA — typically ample power for up to 6 modules. The F-Connector output can be used to power Leviton's 3x8 Bi-Directional Video Module (PN# 47690-38B), or other modules with an F-Connector DC power cord.

    Safety Warnings

    • To be installed and/or used in accordance with appropriate electrical codes and regulations.
    • If you are not sure about any part of these instructions, consult a qualified electrician.
    • To avoid fire, shock, or death, do not connect power to this product until it is fully installed. When in doubt, turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test to be sure power is off.
    • Always disconnect the AC/DC transformer (power supply) before making any wire changes.
    • Never install communications wiring or components during a lightning storm.
    • Never install communications components in wet locations unless designed specifically for that use.
    • Never touch uninsulated wires or terminals unless the wiring has been disconnected at the network interface.
    • To prevent electrical shock, each opening must be filled with a module.

    Installing the Module and Transformer

    1. Mount the DC Power Distribution Module in the lower half of the Structured Media Center (SMC). To mount: line up the Push Lock Pins with holes, then push each pin to lock it into place.
    2. Plug the male DC end of the transformer cord onto the female DC receptacle on the DC Power Module.

    Powering a Module

    1. To power a module that requires +12VDC, choose an empty terminal block and remove it from the distribution module.
    2. Locate and loosen a positive and a negative screw-down terminal post. Note: two of each are provided for each bank of terminal blocks — you only need one of each to connect power to a module. Choose the right-side or left-side pair.
    3. Connect the module's +12VDC (positive) wire (usually marked with a white stripe) to the outside, positive terminal clamp and tighten the screw until secure.
    4. Connect the module's common wire (usually black) to the inner, negative terminal clamp and tighten the screw until secure.
    5. Push the terminal block back into place on the power distribution board.
    6. Repeat steps 1–5 for any additional devices that require +12VDC. To connect power via Category 5 wire, connect the Brown wire to the outside, positive terminal clamp, and the Green wire to the inner, negative terminal clamp.
    7. After all connections have been made, verify that they are correct. Then plug the AC/DC converter into your AC receptacle to power up the modules.

    Caution: Do not exceed the 1500 mA total current capacity.

    Note: The F-Connector output can be used to provide power to modules that require an F-Connector style connection, such as Leviton's Bi-Directional Video Module. To connect power, simply attach the F-Connector power cable to the F-Connector output connection.
