Installation instructions for the Leviton 47609-4DP 1x4 Combo Phone and Data Module — bridges up to four telephone lines and distributes Cat 5/5e data to four remote locations, for use in Leviton Structured Media® Centers.

    Description

The 1x4 Combo Phone and Data Module features 5 sets of 110 IDC punchdowns. Any set can be used as the "input" set, bridging up to four lines of telephone service to the other four sets. UTP cable can be punched down on each of the four "output" sets to distribute service to remote locations throughout the house.

    Installation

To install, snap the 1x4 Combo Phone and Data Module into the mounting bracket (Cat. No. 47612-SBK, sold separately) and align the Push-Lock Pins with the grid holes of the SMC. The module may be mounted horizontally or vertically. With the Push-Lock Pins in the "out" position, press the unit into the grid in the desired location and secure by pushing the Push-Lock Pins "in".

    110 IDC Wiring Termination

Using an industry-standard punchdown tool, wire the 110 IDC connectors per the T568A wiring configuration. The wall jack should also comply with this configuration for both phone and data wallplates.

    Line assignment: Blue = Line 1, Orange = Line 2, Green = Line 3, Brown = Line 4.

    Pin Wire Color
    1 White/Blue
    2 Blue
    3 White/Orange
    4 Orange
    5 White/Green
    6 Green
    7 White/Brown
    8 Brown

Route and terminate up to four Category 5 or Category 5e cables from the wall jacks to the 4-Pair 110 IDC connectors lining the sides of the board, using an industry-standard punchdown tool. Each cable should be fully terminated (all four pairs) on one of the 110 IDC connectors.

    Application

    For Data

Identify the cable you wish to activate and connect one end of a Category 5 or 5e patch cord into the corresponding module port and the other end into an installed data switch or router.

Example: You have a computer and a printer in your home office, and want to access the printer from computers in two bedrooms.

    • Route cables to the two office jacks (for the office computer and printer) to corresponding 110 IDC connectors for Ports 1 & 2.
    • Route cables to the bedroom jacks (for the two bedroom computers) to corresponding 110 IDC connectors for Ports 3 & 4.
    • Install Category 5 or 5e patch cords from ports 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the module to ports on a data switch or router (follow manufacturer's instructions). The 3 computers and the printer will now be networked (a print server may be required).
