    Installation instructions for the Interlogix / GE Security TX-8300-01-1 DesignLine Tri-Zone Sensor — a wireless sensor that protects up to three separate zones from one device, with built-in garage door tilt sensing, tamper protection, and a low-battery LED indicator.

    Overview

    The DesignLine Tri-Zone Sensor provides:

    • Tri-zone sensing — protects any three zones in close proximity, reducing labor and cost versus multiple single-zone sensors.
    • Garage door protection — protects garage doors with tilt sensing, reporting faults/restores based on door position (no magnet needed).
    • Low battery LED indicator — the sensor cover LED flashes every 5 seconds on low battery.
    • Tamper switch protection — indicates if the sensor cover is removed.

    Sensor components: N/C zone inputs, jumpers (1, 2, 3), a reed switch (1 zone), tamper switch, roller-ball tilt switch, and battery compartment.

    Use a maximum of 18 ft. (6 m) of 24 AWG wire per zone (zones 2 and 3). Locate the sensor within 100 ft. (30 m) of the control panel if possible — open-air range is 500 ft. (150 m), though the environment can significantly reduce that.

    Jumper Configuration

    Jumper 1 should be left in its factory-default position (do not remove). Jumpers 2 and 3 control zone learning behavior.

    Auto Learn Mode (default jumper settings)

    J2 J3 Description
    On On Sensor will learn in all three zones when you activate the tamper switch.

    Manual Programming (Learning)

    J2 J3 Description
    Off On Select the zone to learn by faulting the desired zone. To use the reed or tilt switch, zone 1 must be learned first: Zone 1 = remove the magnet; Zone 2 = open zone 2 external contact; Zone 3 = open zone 3 external contact. Replace jumper 2 once zones are programmed.

    For zone 1, select either the reed switch (jumper 3 on) or the tilt switch (jumper 3 off).

    Garage Door Protection

    The sensor can secure a garage door without running wires or using a reed switch. Program (learn) the sensor before mounting it.

    J2 J3 Description
    On Off Tilt switch on in instant mode (no delay).
    Off Off Tilt switch on in 1-minute delay.
    1. Mount the sensor to the top panel of the garage door. Secure the mounting bracket to the garage with the tab at the bottom, using the two provided screws.
    2. Place the sensor (opening latch at the top) on the bracket, align holes with the mounting tabs, and push down to snap it into place.

    Reed Switch Installation

    Program (learn) the sensor before mounting.

    1. Confirm jumper 3 is on.
    2. Secure the mounting bracket to the frame.
    3. Place the sensor on the bracket and snap it into place.
    4. Position the magnet to align with the reed switch — maximum gap is 0.5 in. (1.3 cm) — and secure with the two provided screws.

    If needed, use the included spacer: mount it with the two provided screws and snap the magnet onto the spacer.

    Removing the Sensor

    1. Remove the sensor cover.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Press the tab next to the negative battery terminal to release the sensor from the bracket.
    4. Lift the sensor off the bracket.

    Battery Replacement

    The sensor cover LED flashes every 5 seconds when a low battery condition is detected.

    1. Remove the sensor cover.
    2. Remove the old battery (dispose of properly).
    3. Install the new battery observing correct polarity — see specifications below for the recommended type.

    Mounting the Transmitter

    1. Remove the printed circuit board from the housing.
    2. Use the included hardware to mount the housing back plate to the mounting surface (corner or wall, with screw only, or screw plus wall anchor).
    3. If using the wall tamper function for increased security, mount the back plate ensuring the tamper switch is depressed.
    4. If not using wall tamper, mount the back plate using all appropriate hardware.

    Mounting height of the standard-lens sensor may be anywhere within a range of 7 to 9 feet (2.1 to 2.7 m).
