Instruction manual for the IH7020 Add-A-Motor — a plug-in drapery, vertical blind, and shade motorizer that attaches to any window covering's cord or bead-chain loop without modification.

X-10 Setup

Plug the included AC-DC Adapter into an X-10 appliance module or controlled wall outlet. You can then open and close your window covering using a compatible wall switch, timer, remote control (including a TV remote), or your home computer.

Motor Capacity by Application

Installation — Cord/Chain Window Coverings

Add-A-Motor attaches to your existing window covering without modification — no ladder, no drilling, no electrical work. Simply:

• The motor is designed to fit all window covering cord loops and bead-chain loops.
• A patented stop switch and adjustment dials let you set your preferred open/closed positions.
• Included UL/CSA-listed AC-DC adapter has a 6-foot cord.
• Existing chain connectors can pass through the motor without impeding operation.
• A built-in safety sensor can prevent or interrupt motor operation.
• Included "fast-anchors" eliminate drilling into the wall for easy installation.

Split cord/chain test: Pull down on one side. If the opposite side travels up, it can be motorized. Remove any tassels on the end of the split chain, then join the ends using the existing chain connector or the connector supplied with the motor (it can pass through the motor without impeding operation).

Installation — Shades With a Cord or Chain

Required test: Close the shade and mark the end of the cord/chain loop. Pull until the shade fully opens, then measure the total pull length. If 180 inches or less, it can be motorized.

Required modification: All shades have a brake (clutch) that holds them in the last position. Because the motor also acts as a brake, the shade's internal brake must be removed to avoid damaging the AC-DC adapter.

1. Place the shade on a work surface. Remove any cap over the headrail pulley.
2. Disassemble the pulley from the headrail by compressing its snap-fitting, or loosen the screws.
3. Slide the pulley out of the headrail.
4. Remove the flat spring (the brake) inside the headrail or attached to the pulley — remove all if there is more than one.
5. Reattach the pulley to the headrail. To prevent the shade from unwinding, tie a loose cord/chain knot against the headrail.
6. Install the shade, lower it, then attach the motor.
