HomeSeer HS-WD100+ — Z-Wave Wall Dimmer Manual

Installation and reference manual for the HomeSeer HS-WD100+ Z-Wave Wall Dimmer — a Z-Wave certified wall dimmer for wireless on/off/dim control of dimmable lighting loads.

Warning: Risk of Fire, Electrical Shock, Burns

Do not use this switch to control anything that may present a hazard when controlled remotely or used unattended. Do not use with medical or life support instruments.

Caution: To reduce the risk of overheating and possible damage to other equipment, do not install this switch to control a receptacle, motor-operated appliance, fluorescent lighting fixture, or transformer-supplied appliance.

Installation

Tools required: medium standard and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters.

1. Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Verify power is OFF before continuing.
2. Remove the existing switch's wall plate and mounting screws. Carefully remove the existing switch from the electrical box, leaving the wires connected.
3. There may be up to five wires connected to the existing switch. Note and label them as needed to match with the corresponding screw terminals on the HS-WD100+. LINE, NEUTRAL, and LOAD wires are required for every installation:
   • LINE (Hot) — Black (connected to power)
   • NEUTRAL — White (often tied to other neutral wires; may require a jumper)
   • LOAD — Black (connected to load)
   • GROUND — Green or Bare
   • TRAVELER — Red/Other (only used in 3-way circuits)
4. Disconnect the wires from the existing switch and attach them to the HS-WD100+ using the screw terminal connectors on the back:
   1. Strip 16mm (5/8") of insulation from each wire (all wires should be 14 AWG or larger, rated 80°C or higher).
   2. With a screwdriver, loosen each screw terminal counter-clockwise a few turns until resistance is felt.
   3. Insert the stripped wire into one of the two holes near each screw terminal and tighten to secure the connection snugly. Tightening torque should be 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm).
5. Carefully install the wired switch back into the electrical box and reattach the trim plate.

The switch supports both single-pole and 3-way wiring circuit configurations.

Compatibility

This switch is Z-Wave certified and works with a wide variety of home automation hubs and controllers. All features are fully supported by HomeSeer systems; some advanced features may not be supported by other controllers — check with your controller's manufacturer for compatibility details.

Z-Wave Inclusion

1. Put your Z-Wave controller into inclusion mode (consult your controller's manual if unsure). HomeSeer users: press "Add Device" in the Z-Tool+ mobile app.
2. Tap the paddle of the new switch to begin inclusion — this takes a few moments to complete. HomeSeer users: be sure to name the switch and assign it to a location using Z-Tool+ once inclusion is done.

Manual Reset

Use only if the network's primary controller is lost or otherwise inoperable:

1. Turn the switch on by tapping the top of the paddle once.
2. Quickly tap the top of the paddle 3 times.
3. Quickly tap the bottom of the paddle 3 times.
4. If the light turns off and then on again, the switch has been reset. If not, repeat the process.

Association: This product supports association group #1 for lifeline communication — refer to your controller's manual for setting the lifeline association.

Operation

Local Control

• Tap the top of the paddle to power the load.
• Tap the bottom of the paddle to cut power to the load.
• Press & hold the top or bottom of the paddle to increase or decrease the dim level — the switch's white LED indicators light up to show the relative dim level.

Remote Control

On/Off/Dim control is available remotely via a Z-Wave compatible controller. HomeSeer users: this switch creates 3 devices — a root device (manages Z-Wave settings), a central scene device (used as an event trigger), and a control device (sends on/off/dim commands).

Advanced Features

• Multi-tap triggering — Tapping the top or bottom of the paddle once, twice, or three times in rapid succession can trigger HomeSeer events. Note: tapping once also controls the attached local load.
• Adjustable dim rates — Dimming rates can be adjusted independently for local and remote control.
• Instant status updates — The dimmer reports real-time status to HomeSeer systems when locally controlled.
