    Quick-start guide for the HomeSeer HomeTroller S6 — a pre-configured Z-Wave home automation controller running HS3 software.

    Step 1 — Initial Setup

    Hardware Installation

    1. Unpack the HomeTroller and AC power supply.
    2. Connect a monitor, mouse, and keyboard for initial setup (or access remotely via VNC, Remote Desktop, or find.homeseer.com).
    3. Connect an Ethernet cable to the HomeTroller and to a network port on your router (WiFi can be configured if desired).
    4. Connect the AC power adapter to begin the boot process — the HomeTroller will power on by itself.

    Accessing the Web Interface

Navigate to http://find.homeseer.com, click "Search" — your HomeSeer system should appear at the bottom. Click the IP address link to access the web interface.

    Registering Your HomeTroller

You must register the unit for HS3 to boot up fully and automatically on every restart. Your License ID and password are located on the bottom of the unit. Go to Tools > Setup > License section > Register Online, then enter your License ID and Password.

    Changing Username and Password

Default username/password is default / default — change this immediately. Go to Tools > Setup > Network tab > Web User Settings to add users and set User Rights.

Updating and Setting the Time Zone

HomeSeer checks for updates on boot. Restart the HomeTroller or HS3 to apply updates. Set the time zone by double-clicking the clock in the system tray and choosing "Change Time Zone."

Step 2 — Local and Remote Access

    MyHS Remote Registration

Requires HS3 v3.0.0.97+ and HSTouch Android client v1.0.0.76+. To register: open HSTouch, tap Register, enter an account email/password, and your HS3 License ID/Password. Confirm via the emailed confirmation link.

Using VNC for Local or Remote Access

RealVNC ships pre-installed on the HomeTroller for remote Windows-interface access.

    • Local network: browse to http://HomeTroller:5900 (or the LAN IP, e.g. http://192.168.0.100:5900). Accept the security prompt and "VNC Viewer: Connection Details" dialog, then enter password hsthst.
    • Internet access: browse to http://[IP Address]:5800. Same password (hsthst). Requires port 5900 forwarded through your router/firewall.

    Step 3 — Installing Plug-ins

    1. Go to Plug-Ins > Manage.
    2. Click the yellow circle next to "Additional Interfaces" to see plug-in categories.
    3. Expand a category, check the box next to each plug-in you want (multiple selections allowed).
    4. Click "Download and Install" and monitor the progress bar.
    5. Enable each installed plug-in (toggle to green checkmark) before configuring it.
    6. Access configuration pages via the Plug-ins menu > installed plug-in > configuration link.

    Step 4 — Adding a Z-Wave Controller

    1. Go to Plug-ins > Z-Wave > Controller Management.
    2. Click "Add Interface."
    3. Enter an interface name, interface type, and COM port (use "Ethernet" if using an IP2SL/WF2SL).
    4. Click "Add" and let HomeSeer initialize the unit.
    5. Enable the controller — click the red "no" circle to toggle it; a green checkmark confirms success.

    Step 5 — Z-Wave Network Setup

Including Externally Powered Devices (switches, receptacles, plug-in modules)

    1. Put the Z-Stick into "inclusion mode" by pressing and releasing its round button (blue LED blinks slowly).
    2. Position it within 1–3 feet of the device, then press the device's network button/paddle. A solid LED glow for ~2 seconds confirms success.
    3. Repeat for additional devices, then tap the Z-Stick button again to exit inclusion mode.

Including Battery-Powered Devices (door locks, environmental sensors)

    1. Position the battery device within 1–3 feet of the HomeTroller (with the Z-Wave controller plugged in).
    2. Navigate to Plug-ins > Z-Wave > Controller Management, expand the controller, and choose "Add/Include a Node" from the Actions menu.
    3. Click "Start," then activate the network button/sequence on the device. Watch the log window for "Finished with Replication process."

    Excluding Devices

Press and hold the Z-Stick's round button for 3 seconds (LED blinks rapidly), then press the device's network button within 1–3 feet. A solid LED glow confirms the device was reset/removed.

Step 6 — Importing, Editing, and Controlling Z-Wave Devices

    1. Navigate to Plug-ins > Z-Wave > Controller Management, choose "Import Node Info from Controller and Scan Devices" from the Actions menu, and click "Start."
    2. View all devices under View > Device Management > "Show All."
    3. Click a device name to edit it; use the Control column buttons to operate it.

Step 7 — Creating Automation Events

An event consists of a trigger and an action (e.g. Trigger = sunset, Action = turn on lights). Under View > Events, rename the event group, expand "New Event," rename it, set the Trigger (blue section, e.g. "The Time Is... Sunset") and the Action (green section, e.g. "Control a Device").

Step 8 — HSTouch Server Setup (Android)

    1. Go to Plug-ins > Manage.
    2. Expand "Additional Interfaces" > "User Interfaces" > check "HomeSeer HSTouch Server" > Download and Install.
    3. Enable HSTouch Server (toggle to green checkmark).

    Setting Up IP Cameras

Foscam cameras are auto-detected under Plug-ins > HSTouch Server > HSTouch (enter username/password per camera). For other brands, click the green plus to add a camera, name it, add the snapshot URL, and configure pan/tilt.

Step 9 — HSTouch Client Setup

On first launch, configure a server (Servers 1–4 allow multiple locations): set a Label, Address (IP or domain), Username, and Password. Other options include Connection Mode (default connection on startup), Dim Systembar, Font Scaling, Auto Size, Client Name, and Zipcode (for weather).

    Setting Up MyHS

Open HSTouch, log in to MyHS with your registered email/password — HSTouch will then always connect through MyHS, working from any location/network.

    Step 10 — System Restore

Resets the HomeTroller S6 to factory default and wipes all user data. Back up your HS3 folder (C:\Program Files(x86)\HomeSeerHS3) first if needed.

    1. Attach a monitor and keyboard.
    2. Restart the HomeTroller.
    3. At the HomeSeer Start/Restore Menu, select "System Restore."
    4. Press Enter on the restore option (e.g. S6_SYSTEMRESTORE_XXXXXX). The unit restarts once finished.
