    September 08, 2026 3 min read

Installation and operating instructions for the HAI UPB 300W Lamp Module (model 59A00-1), a plug-in dimmer using UPB two-way powerline communication.

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

The HAI UPB™ Lamp Module (model 59A00-1, HAI 300W Lamp Module) is a plug-in dimmer incorporating UPB™ two-way powerline communication technology, allowing remote control by any UPB™-compatible controller. It is intended for use with incandescent or tungsten loads only. The module has one UPB™-controllable outlet that senses the lamp's local on/off switch, allowing it to turn the lamp back on even after it was switched off via UPB™ control; it can also transmit UPB™ messages (including current light level) when the local switch is used.

Each Lamp Module can be configured to fit an individual's lifestyle and can store up to 16 preset light levels and fade rates for lighting scenes. It can also be set to a non-dimming mode to control loads such as fluorescent lights.

    Safety Warnings

    • Install in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local codes/regulations. Retain these instructions for reference.
    • For incandescent or tungsten loads only.
    • When configured as dimming-capable, do not use to control a receptacle, motor-operated appliance, fluorescent lighting fixture, or transformer-supplied appliance — risk of overheating and equipment damage.
    • Indoor use only.

    Installation

The HAI UPB™ Lamp Module simply plugs into a standard 120VAC wall outlet. The total load on the UPB™-controlled outlet must not exceed 300 Watts.

    Operation

    Lamp Switch Trigger Operation

By default, the Lamp Module senses the lamp's local on/off switch and can turn the lamp on even after it was turned off via UPB™ control. This feature may not work for all load types (e.g., fluorescent) and may need to be disabled.

    LED Indicator

A multi-color LED is normally lit blue when the load is off, and turns off when the load is on or set to any level 1–100%.

    Test Mode

    Step Operation
1 Press and hold the pushbutton for at least 3 seconds to enter Test Mode.
2 LED continuously flashes magenta to indicate Test Mode (auto-exits after 5 minutes).
3 Press the pushbutton once to turn the UPB™-controlled outlet on and off.
4 Press and hold the pushbutton for at least 3 seconds to exit Test Mode.

    Setup Mode

    Step Operation
1 Press the pushbutton switch quickly 5 times.
2 The Lamp Module flashes the load once and blinks the LED blue to indicate Setup Mode (auto-exits after 5 minutes). Configure via an HAI controller or PC running UPB™ UPStart configuration software.

    Reset to Factory Default

    Step Operation
1 Press the pushbutton switch quickly 5 times.
2 Load flashes once, LED blinks blue — ready to set factory defaults.
3 Press the pushbutton quickly 10 times to reset.
4 Load flashes once, LED blinks red — reset complete.
5 Press the pushbutton once more to stop the LED blinking.
