Installation and operating instructions for the HAI UPB Appliance Module (model 60A00-1) — a plug-in powerline module that remotely controls a plugged-in appliance load via UPB two-way communication, with local switch-trigger sensing.

Overview

The HAI UPB Appliance Module (Figure 1: LED, pushbutton, and UPB-controlled outlet) is a plug-in device using UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) two-way communication technology, letting it be remotely controlled by any UPB-compatible controller. It has one UPB-controllable outlet that can sense the connected load's local on/off switch (a feature called "switch trigger") to turn the load back on even after it was switched off via UPB control — though this feature is disabled by default and may not work with all load types (e.g., fluorescent lighting). The module can also transmit UPB messages whenever the local load switch is used to turn the load on or off. For indoor use only.

Installation

Simply plug the HAI UPB Appliance Module into a standard wall outlet. The total load on the UPB-controlled outlet must not exceed 15 Amps or ½ Horsepower.

Operation (Factory Default Configuration)

LED Indicator

The multi-color LED is normally lit blue when the load is off, and turns off when the load is turned on.

Test Mode

1. Press and hold the pushbutton for at least 3 seconds to enter Test Mode. The LED blinks magenta continuously (Test Mode auto-exits after 5 minutes).
2. Press the pushbutton once to turn the UPB-controlled outlet on and off.
3. Press and hold the pushbutton for at least 3 seconds to exit Test Mode.

Setup Mode

To configure the module using an HAI controller or a PC running UPB UPStart software:

1. Press the pushbutton switch quickly 5 times. The module cycles the load once and the LED blinks blue to indicate Setup Mode (auto-exits after 5 minutes).

Reset to Factory Default

1. Press the pushbutton switch quickly 5 times — load cycles once, LED blinks blue (ready to reset).
2. Press the pushbutton switch quickly 10 times to reset to factory default.
3. The module cycles the load once and the LED blinks red to indicate it has been reset.
4. Press the pushbutton once more to stop the LED from blinking.

Advanced Configuration

The module has many additional configurable items settable via UPB UPStart configuration software beyond the factory default behavior described above.

Warranty

HAI warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship, under normal use and service, for two (2) years from the date of purchase. During the warranty period, HAI will repair or replace the product at its sole option if it fails due to a defect. The warranty does not cover removal/reinstallation costs, normal wear, damage while in the customer's possession (other than defect-caused), improper installation, alterations, misuse, or abuse. HAI is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. Implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for purpose) are limited to the same two-year period.
