GE Interlogix Kalatel KTC-115CC / KTC-215CC / KTC-240CCE — Compact Camera Manual

Installation and operation manual for the GE Interlogix Kalatel KTC-115CC, KTC-215CC, and KTC-240CCE compact CCTV cameras.

Before You Begin

This installation should be made by a qualified service person and should conform to local codes. This manual requires basic knowledge of CCTV systems/components and electrical wiring/low-voltage hookups. Use this product only for its designed purpose.

Back Panel Components

The back panel includes: Auto iris connector, DIP switch, 24 VAC power source terminal, direct drive auto iris level adjuster, Power LED, and video output to monitor.

Installing the Lens

The KTC compact cameras accept any CS-mount type lens. To use a C-mount lens, add a 5mm adapter ring.

Connecting an Auto Iris Lens

If using an auto iris lens, attach the lens to the camera and insert the lens plug into the auto iris connector. If using a DC auto iris lens without a lens plug, wire per the standard connection diagram (Driving +/-, Damping +/- across the 4-pin connector, solder side).

Programming the DIP Switch

Refer to the appropriate diagram depending on camera model.

KTC-215CC and KTC-240CCE DIP Switch

• Automatic electronic shutter / direct drive auto iris
• Backlight compensation off/on
• Auto tracking white balance / fixed white balance
• Normal view / mirror view (flips picture left to right)

KTC-115CC DIP Switch

• Automatic electronic shutter / direct drive auto iris
• Backlight compensation off/on
• Normal view / mirror view
• Normal / E-zoom

Shutter Control (AES or DD)

• Automatic Electronic Shutter (AES): use when using a manual iris lens (no plug) — the camera automatically adjusts to changes in light conditions.
• Direct Drive Auto Iris (DD): use with a plug-in, auto iris, DC-type lens — camera and lens work together to adjust to light changes. After setup, see Setting the Auto Iris Level below.

Backlight Compensation (BLC Off or On)

Controls iris gain and white balance simultaneously. If foreground objects appear silhouetted against a brighter background, turn backlight compensation on for greater foreground definition. Compensation may be insufficient when the background is extremely bright.

White Balance (ATW/FIX)

Not available on KTC-115CC.

• ATW (auto-tracking): continuously tracks the scene's color range and sets white balance automatically. Use if the color range changes constantly.
• FIX (fixed): uses white as reference, adjusting blue/red content automatically. Use if the scene's color range stays fairly constant.

View (Normal or Mirror)

Normal: the video image displays as it appears in front of the camera. Mirror: the image flips horizontally before display — useful when the camera points at a mirror and the viewer prefers to see the scene as it appears before reflection.

Zoom (Normal or E Zoom)

Available only on KTC-115CC. Normal mode shows the image without digital magnification. E Zoom mode digitally zooms approximately 3x, though image quality is not as high as in normal mode.

Installing the Camera into a Housing

Depending on housing type, feed cables through the housing before connecting them to the camera; it may help to install the camera into the housing before making cable connections. See the housing's manual for instructions (e.g. the KTA-L installation instruction manual for Low-Cost Housings).

Making Cable Connections

1. Attach the monitor's video-in BNC connector to the camera's VIDEO OUT connector.
2. Loosen the ~AC24V terminal connectors on the terminal block with a screwdriver.
3. Connect the power source leads to the ~AC24V terminal connectors.
4. Tighten the terminal connector screws until snug, ensuring power leads are secure.
5. Provide power to the camera.

The power LED should illuminate once power is supplied. If not, check the terminal block connections and power source.

Making Additional Adjustments

Setting the Auto Iris Level

For plug-in, auto iris, DC-type lenses, use a screwdriver to rotate the direct drive auto iris level adjuster to achieve a good picture under all light conditions.

Adjusting the Back Focus

Back focusing keeps the image sharp under varied lighting by matching the lens' back focal length with the camera's imaging device. Depth of field decreases with long focal length, small f-number (iris open), or short object distance. Adjust only under low light or minimum depth of field (iris fully open):

1. Operate the camera, viewing an object approximately 75 ft. away.
2. If the lens has a focus ring, set to infinity (turn fully clockwise as viewed from the front).
3. Set a manual iris lens to the widest opening/lowest f-number; for auto iris, place a filter in front of the lens to simulate low light and force the iris fully open.
4. Unscrew the back focus adjustment lock screw so the adjustment ring turns.
5. Turn the back focus adjustment ring gently (with filter in place if used) to achieve the sharpest image.
6. Retighten the lock screw carefully without changing focus.
7. Position the camera for the required view; adjust focus with the lens focus ring only if needed.
8. For auto iris lenses, adjust the DC level for optimum performance.

Warranty and Return Information

GE Interlogix, Kalatel division, warrants its equipment for three years from the date of purchase, covering defects in materials and workmanship only (not improper installation, modification, abuse, or acts of nature). The repair department evaluates returned equipment for warranty coverage; the Tech Support Manager makes final determinations. Exception: MobileView® and the monitor CRT carry a 12-month warranty.

For warranty repairs, GE Interlogix/Kalatel covers all costs (parts, labor, shipping); repaired equipment returns via the same shipping method received (faster shipment is billed to the customer). Non-warranty repairs are billed for parts, labor, and shipping (labor billed in half-hour increments). Customers requesting a repair estimate are notified by phone, then fax if unreachable; equipment is returned unrepaired after one phone attempt and two fax attempts fail, and held no longer than two weeks.

Advance Replacement Policy

• Under 45 days from purchase: replaced with new equipment.
• 45 days to 1 year: replaced with refurbished equipment.
• 1–3 years: product must be sent in for repair; advance replacements available for a $100 fee.
