Overview

The FSD X10 Compact Controller is a low-cost, single-protocol X10 home automation controller manufactured by Foard Systems Design, Inc. It supports standard X10 devices, extended commands for groups and scenes, and X10 protocol variations from different manufacturers. The compact controller can operate stand-alone after initial configuration, mapping inputs and outputs across X10 devices (e.g., an X10 switch can be mapped to control other X10 devices with different House/Unit codes) with support for timers and macros.

It also includes flexible macro programming, an interval timer, and a time-of-day timer.

Software & Configuration

The included FSD Automator software suite runs on Windows XP or Windows 2000 for configuration; the host computer does not need to stay connected during operation. If it remains connected, the software provides run-time monitoring and control via a graphical floor-plan-oriented interface, plus data logging of device states and X10/timer/macro commands to disk.

Remote monitoring, control, and configuration over a LAN, wireless LAN, or the Internet is supported natively. Third-party application interfacing is available via an easy-to-use interface application, a documented packet-based serial USB driver, and TCP/IP using an included PC-hosted TCP/IP-to-serial packet router — the same packet-based interface approach also works across FSD's X10, UPB, and hardwired controller/bridge product line.

The controller supports up to 64 devices (actual capacity depends on device type configured).
