| EGND (Earth Ground) | Connect to a good quality earth ground using 14–16 gauge wire. Best choices: a copper or galvanized rod (6' or longer) driven into the ground, or a metallic cold water pipe. Do NOT use PVC pipe. If all else fails, a less effective alternative is the ground screw on an electrical outlet cover. |
| TELCO Line 1 — RING / TIP | Connect the Incoming Telephone Line 1 pair. RING is commonly colored red, TIP commonly green. |
| HOUSE Phone 1 — R1 / T1 | Connect the pair returning to House Phone(s) on Line 1. R1 commonly black, T1 commonly yellow. |
| TELCO Line 2 — RING / TIP | Connect the Incoming Telephone Line 2 pair (same color convention as Line 1). |
| HOUSE Phone 2 — R1 / T1 | Connect the pair returning to House Phone(s) on Line 2 (same color convention as Line 1). |
| J1 & J2 Modular Jacks | Using individual 8-wire modular cords (3 ft or longer for optimum surge protection), connect the equipment to be protected (digital communicator, 8-pin RJ telephone key set, etc.) to modular jacks J1 and J2. Pins 4 & 5 are RING and TIP going to the equipment; pins 1 & 8 are R1 and T1 returning from the equipment. Pins 2 & 7 are shorted together by jumpers to create closed-circuit tamper loops for supervising the modular plug. To convert to resistored EOL circuits, cut the jumpers and attach the required resistors in series. |
