    Installation Instructions for the ELK-319HRR Heat & Rate of Rise Sensor, a supervised wireless heat sensor that triggers at a selectable fixed setpoint (135°F or 200°F) or when temperature rises 12°F or more within one minute.

    Description

    The ELK-319HRR is a supervised, wireless heat sensor. It uses a solid-state thermistor to sample and trigger an event at a selectable setpoint of either 135°F or 200°F. It can also trigger an event if the temperature rises 12°F or more during a one-minute period.

    When an event is triggered, the sensor transmits an alarm (trip) signal to the panel. It also transmits tamper, hourly supervisory, and low-battery signals as needed. It's powered by a single 3V lithium battery, rated for up to 10 years of life.

    Compatible with Elk's 319MHz Receivers/Panels, as well as many other panels operating on the 319.5MHz frequency that adhere to the ITI/Interlogix protocol.

    Installation Guidelines

    • Test operation from the desired location to confirm the panel can receive the signal, before drilling holes or permanently mounting the sensor.
    • Mounting on metal can negatively affect the transmitting range.
    • Install within 100 ft. of the receiver or panel.
    • Recommended for areas like garages, kitchens, attics, utility & equipment closets, or places where a smoke detector is not advisable.
    • Avoid areas prone to extreme or rapid temperature increases, such as near fireplaces, stoves, or heaters.
    • Mount on ceilings at least 4 inches away from any wall. If mounted on a wall, the sensor must be within 6 inches of the ceiling.
    • If using the 135°F setting, confirm the mounting location doesn't normally exceed that temperature.

    Setup

    The sensor can be set to detect a fixed temperature of Low (135°F) or High (200°F) using the onboard jumper.

    Programming (Enrollment)

    General guideline — refer to your receiver/panel instructions for complete details.

    1. Place the panel into Program mode.
    2. Proceed to the WIRELESS SETUP menu.
    3. Select the appropriate zone/sensor location number.
    4. When prompted to trip the sensor for learning, remove the battery pull tab to power up the sensor. The panel should acknowledge the sensor via keypad display and/or audio alert. If enrollment fails, try pressing and releasing the tamper plunger, or remove and reinstall the battery.
    5. Repeat for any additional wireless sensors, then proceed to zone programming to assign each sensor's zone definition.
    6. Exit programming mode when finished.

    Mounting

    1. Hold the mounting base with one hand and twist the sensor counterclockwise with the other to remove it from the base.
    2. Place the mounting base in the desired location and attach with two screws (through the mounting holes).
    3. Align the sensor back onto the base and twist clockwise to lock it in place. The sensor and magnet are also designed for mounting using adjustable straps or ties (purchased separately).

    Testing the Sensor

    All wireless sensors should be thoroughly walk-tested after installation and programming.

    1. Place the panel into Walk Test mode.
    2. Monitor the keypad display as each sensor is tripped (some panels show a signal strength indication).
    3. Exit Walk Test mode when finished.

    Battery Replacement

    Low Battery trouble is transmitted when the sensor's battery needs replacement. Replace the 3V lithium battery within 7 days of a low battery indication.

    1. Twist the sensor counterclockwise to remove it from the mounting base.
    2. Turn the sensor over and remove the old battery.
    3. Observe polarity and carefully insert the new battery. Use only an approved 3.0V lithium battery, Panasonic or Varta model CR123.
    4. Align the sensor back onto the base and twist clockwise to lock it in place.

    Battery Warning: Risk of fire, explosion, and burns. Do not attempt to recharge or disassemble. Do not incinerate or expose to heat above 212°F (100°C). Dispose of used batteries properly. Keep away from children.

    This wireless sensor is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for 2 years from date of manufacture, excluding batteries (batteries used with wireless devices are not warranted).
