Installation sheet for the Ecolink TX-E231 Door/Window Sensor with External Contact Input — a 319.5 MHz wireless door/window sensor compatible with Interlogix and Qolsys control panels, with an optional external contact input.

    Overview

The TX-E231 is designed for compatibility with Interlogix and Qolsys control panels that receive the 319.5 MHz RF protocol. It supports either the built-in magnet/reed switch or a wired external contact — but not both simultaneously (using the magnet requires the external wires to be disconnected).

    Enrolling

Set your panel into program mode and go to the Learn Sensors menu (refer to your panel's manual for exact steps). When prompted by the panel:

    • Touch the magnet to the side of the sensor marked with three white lines — this transmits a signal using the serial number printed on the back of the sensor, or
    • Connect the provided external wire and short the wires together
    • Select the appropriate sensor group and number on the panel

    Mounting

The side of the sensor marked with 3 lines indicates the reed switch location. Mount the magnet facing that side, no more than 5/8" (15.875mm) away.

    • Double-sided tape is included for both the sensor and magnet. Choose a location that gives good signal strength (see "Testing the Sensor" below), ensure the surface is clean and dry, then apply firm pressure for several seconds. Only apply tape when temperatures are above 50°F and will stay above 50°F for at least 24 hours to ensure a proper bond.
    • A mounting back plate with screws is also included — screw the plate to the surface and snap the sensor onto it. To remove, take off the cover, then use a small flat-head screwdriver to press the tab near the battery toward the wall while sliding the sensor up.
    • Install sensors within 100 ft. (30m) of the panel where possible — open-air range can reach 500 ft. (150m), but real-world range varies with the environment.

Interchangeable covers: the sensor ships with a white cover; an optional brown cover is included. Slide the front cover off to disengage, then snap the replacement into place (ensure "Top" as marked inside the cover points away from the battery) — you should hear a click. The magnet's cover can be swapped the same way by gently prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver.

    Installing / Replacing the Battery

A low-battery signal is sent to the control panel automatically.

    1. Slide the top cover off to reveal the battery (this triggers a zone tamper signal to the panel)
    2. Install a CR2032 battery with the + side facing you
    3. Re-attach the cover, ensuring the "Top" marking points away from the battery — listen for the click

    Testing the Sensor (Test Weekly)

    1. Put the panel/receiver into sensor test mode
    2. Open the door/window the sensor protects — it will transmit a signal
    3. Listen for siren beeps to determine the response
    4. Exit sensor test mode
