    Installation guide and owner's manual for the DynaQuip WaterCop LeakStop — an automatic leak detection and water shut-off system that monitors a single location for accumulating moisture and automatically closes a brass supply valve to prevent extensive water damage.

    Quick Start

    1. Select an installation location for the valve, just upstream from the inlet of the water-bearing appliance.
    2. Using compression or solder connections, install the brass valve into the inlet pipe.
    3. Apply power to the LeakStop control box.
    4. Place sensors in areas where water would begin to accumulate.
    5. Test the system and restore it to ready status.

    System Overview

    WaterCop LeakStop detects water leaks in your plumbing system at a single location and automatically shuts off the water supply to that same location. Early leak detection combined with automatic shut-off is the best defense against extensive water damage.

    Safety Information

    • Warning: Do not apply power to the unit unless it is fully assembled as shipped — failure to do so could cause injury or damage.
    • Warning: Disconnect the power source before working on or servicing the unit.
    • Caution: Wear eye protection while servicing the system.
    • Notice: Install downstream of existing shutoff valves and pressure reducers, and 18" downstream from existing indoor water meters to allow for future meter maintenance.
    • Warning: LeakStop must be installed indoors, with ambient air temperature between 35°F and 105°F — do not expose to freezing or extreme heat.
    • Important: Follow all local and municipal building, plumbing, and electrical codes. Some jurisdictions require a licensed plumber or permits. Even where not required, the installer should have professional-level plumbing and electrical competence, or use a licensed professional.
    • Important: Check with the appliance manufacturer for special servicing instructions when the inlet water supply is stopped for any length of time.
    • Warning: The valve closes with great force and could injure a finger — keep fingers and objects out of the valve during testing.
    • Warning: The LeakStop case is NOT explosion-proof; never install the shut-off valve where it could ignite flammable vapors or explosive mixtures.
    • Warning (electrical safety): Use a grounded 120VAC outlet with a properly grounded 3-prong plug. Do not use extension cords — install LeakStop within 8 feet of an outlet, or add an outlet nearby (per local code). Always unplug the power cord before opening the case, since electrified components are exposed inside.

    System Components

    WaterCop LeakStop consists of two components, sold together or separately:

    1. Brass valve sized to match the existing supply line — NSF61-approved (NSF61g available), full-flow forged brass, 400 psi CWP.
    2. Electric control box with attached moisture sensors — 120VAC grounded plug, with 2 moisture sensors on 10-foot cords.

    Installation Location

    Install indoors, directly into the plumbing supply line just upstream of the appliance or area to be monitored (most commonly a water heater). Verify a grounded outlet is within 8 feet. Place the attached moisture sensor directly on the floor where water would first accumulate in the event of a leak.

    Installation Guidelines

    Use of a licensed professional plumber is highly recommended, and required in some municipalities.

    1. Separate the brass valve from the control box by removing the attachment screws (retain these screws for reassembly).
    2. Using compression fittings or sweat fitting adaptors, install the properly sized brass valve into the plumbing system just upstream from the device on the cold water supply. Orient the valve so the homeowner has easy access to the open/close buttons once the control box is attached.
    3. Verify the valve and LeakStop motor are both in the OPEN position — the slot in the valve stem should line up end-to-end with the valve body. Apply power to the control box (plug into 120VAC); the green light should turn on. If not, press the green button to cycle the unit to OPEN, then disconnect power.
    4. Mount the LeakStop motor onto the valve and secure with the provided mounting screws. Important: the control box must be aligned with the valve correctly.
    5. Plug the unit into a local 120V outlet.

    Sensor Placement

    Place the sensor probes flat on the floor in areas where water would first accumulate during a leak, so water is detected as soon as possible. The gold pins should not contact any other objects or the flooring surface. Sensors may be taped or adhered directly to the floor or drip pan, but take care that: 1) tape/adhesive does not touch or block the gold pins from reaching water, and 2) the gold pins do not contact metal or other conductive surfaces (either condition can cause a false alarm).

    System Operation

    WaterCop LeakStop constantly monitors the selected area for moisture. When water contacts the sensor probe, the control box closes the valve, shutting off the local water supply. The valve remains closed until manually reset via the push buttons on the control box. Status lights indicate valve position: red = closed, green = open. The valve can also be manually opened/closed via the soft-touch buttons independent of a leak event. LeakStop requires standard 120VAC power to operate; during a power failure, the valve holds its current position and does not change state when power fluctuates or is restored.

    Initial and Periodic Testing

    Conduct initial and monthly testing to ensure continued protection.

    1. Verify the LeakStop is plugged into a grounded outlet and receiving power.
    2. Verify the valve is in the open position (green light illuminated).
    3. Using a cup of tap water (not distilled or RO water), place one sensor directly into the water.
    4. The sensor detects the water and the valve moves to the closed position.
    5. Verify the valve is closed (red light illuminated). If installed on a water heater, you can additionally confirm closure by opening a downstream hot water faucet — you'll notice slowing flow and eventual stoppage. You must test a hot water faucet; testing cold water will not return an accurate result. For other water-bearing appliances, verify outlet flow has stopped by attempting to draw water from the device.
    6. Remove the sensor from the water and dry it thoroughly. Close any faucets opened during testing.
    7. Press the GREEN button on the control panel to open the valve and restore water flow.
    8. Repeat steps 2–7 for the second sensor.

    System Reset

    If LeakStop detects a flooding condition (or is accidentally tripped) and the valve closes: 1) verify the monitored appliance is dry and not leaking; 2) press the Green button on the control panel to reopen the valve and restore water flow.

    Troubleshooting

    Issue Checks
    Flood sensor doesn't detect water Confirm LeakStop is powered; confirm the gold prongs make continued, direct contact with the water; if testing, confirm tap water (not distilled/RO water) is being used.
    Red or Green light doesn't illuminate Confirm the unit is plugged into a powered, grounded 120VAC outlet.
    Motor doesn't open/close the valve correctly Confirm power at the outlet; confirm the valve is correctly oriented to the control box (see Installation Guidelines step 4); for solder connections, check the ball valve seats weren't damaged by excessive heat; for compression connections, check fittings weren't over-tightened, damaging the valve/seal/seat. In either case: remove the control box (retain the 4 screws), use a flat-head screwdriver in the valve stem slot to manually cycle the ball valve open/closed, confirm the ball can rotate with moderate pressure, then return the stem to its original position (slot perpendicular to valve length, in-line with the pipe) before reattaching.

    System Limitations

    This is an advanced automatic water shut-off system, but it does not offer guaranteed protection against sudden or accidental water discharge. Limitations include:

    • No protection against water intrusion from sources external to the plumbing supply (rain, storm water, sewer back-up, pools/spas, ice dams, HVAC condensation, freezer defrosting, etc.).
    • The system will not function without power — AC-powered devices fail if power is interrupted, even briefly.
    • Leaks occurring away from an active sensor may not be detected quickly, or at all.
    • Like any electrical device, components can fail even with proper factory testing and a design life of up to 10 years.
    • The valve may not function properly if corroded or blocked by sediment or mineral buildup.
    • Inadequate maintenance is the most common cause of system failure — DynaQuip recommends testing at least every six months to confirm the valve and both sensors work correctly.

    Optional Parts & Accessories

    The system is self-contained with no optional accessories. Limited repair parts are available by calling 800-545-3636, including: the complete LeakStop control box, replacement brass ball valve, and sensor cord/probe replacements (system supports a maximum of 2 sensors).

    Warranty

    DynaQuip Controls Corporation warrants the electric valve actuator, sensors, and electronic control components against defects in material and workmanship for 2 years from the original shipment date. The brass ball valve mechanical component is warranted against defects for the life of the component. Coverage requires proper storage, installation, maintenance, and operation per DynaQuip's recommendations and standard industry practice; the warranty is void if abused, misused, misapplied, improperly installed, modified, or disassembled outside the point of original manufacture. This is the exclusive remedy for breach of warranty — DynaQuip is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. The seller does not represent that the product will prevent all property loss from sudden or accidental water discharge, or that it cannot be compromised or circumvented; it reduces risk but is not insurance or a guarantee. Seller's maximum liability, if any is found, shall not exceed the original purchase price of the product.
