Installation and wiring instructions for the Dakota Alert HM-01 Hylite Mightylite™ — an energy-efficient, high-powered outdoor LED floodlight.

    Overview

The Mightylite floodlight is suitable for installation on most walls in a range of locations including entrances, gardens, garages, and outdoor parking areas.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • This product should only be installed by a competent individual familiar with all applicable codes and regulations. In certain jurisdictions, installation by a licensed electrician is required.
    • Minimize risk of electric shock by installing appropriate safety devices, including a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). Cables should always be protected against short circuit and overload.
    • Ensure the voltage marked on the product matches the electrical power supply being used.
    • DO NOT position the light near flammable, combustible, or explosive liquids, solids, gases, or equipment.
    • DO NOT direct the light into a person's eyes — the light output is very intense and could cause eye damage if used incorrectly.
    • Always maintain the light in good condition; repairs should only be undertaken by a qualified electrician.

    Installation and Wiring Instructions

Warning: Isolate the power supply before installation — turn off the A/C power to the circuit before beginning.

    1. The unit requires connection to a 120V 60Hz power supply. It's recommended to connect it to the domestic lighting circuit using 2-conductor round flexible cable, 14 AWG. If the cable will run outdoors, it must be waterproof cable. Installing a single-pole wall switch for easy control of the floodlight is also advisable.
    2. Position the unit on the wall and mark the position for the connection box, which can be mounted horizontal or vertical.
    3. Ensure the wires can enter the connection box either through the knock-out (KO) at the back, or through the knock-outs on the sides.
    4. If feeding a wire through the back knock-out, use waterproof, UV-proof silicone sealant between the back of the connection box and the wall surface to prevent water intrusion. If feeding through a side knock-out, use the supplied cable gland — tighten the nut gently against the gland body once installed so the wire is secured and sealed.
    5. Mark the 4 drill holes needed to secure the box to the wall (and the cable outlet location if required), or use the "C" bracket to mount to the wall instead (attach the bracket to the box's side knockouts using the provided screw knobs).
    6. Drill the wall and screw the connection box (or "C" bracket) onto the wall using the provided screws. Install the provided screw covers over the mounting holes to prevent water ingress.
    7. Feed the A/C cable into the connection box, strip approximately ¼" of insulation from each of the 2 conductors, and attach to the terminal block: black wire to black (hot), white wire to white (neutral).
    8. Ensure the waterproof seal on the lid is in place, then fasten the lid to the connection box using the 4 connection screws provided and install the screw covers.
    9. To adjust the Mightylite, hold the connection box firmly while moving the head of the floodlight to the desired position. If using the "C" bracket, the junction box can be swiveled to the desired position and the light head further adjusted from there.
