Chief PNR — Large Flat Panel Dual Arm Wall Mount Installation Instructions

Full installation instructions for the Chief PNR™ Large Flat Panel Dual Arm Wall Mount, a wall-mounted, rugged, versatile swing-arm mount compatible with the standard 14"x14" PSB interface bracket for landscape or portrait display mounting.

Overview

The PNR's dual arms extend 25" from the wall and pivot up to 90° left or right of center. The support posts for the dual arms ship centered but can be moved laterally to accommodate sites with limited wall space. The mount offers over an inch of height adjustment, and a tilt range of 5° up to 15° down. Fast installation: draw a plumb line, install the two top lag bolts into dual wall studs, hang the PNR on its top bracket, install two lag bolts in the bottom bracket, make the height adjustment, mount the display, connect cables through the built-in swing-arm cable path, then make the lateral, rotational, and tilt adjustments.

Important Warnings & Cautions

• Warning: Improper installation can result in serious personal injury. Structural members must support a redundant weight factor of five times the total equipment weight — reinforce the structure first if needed.
• Warning: Be aware of the potential for personal injury or equipment damage if not adequately mounted. The installer is responsible for verifying the wall can safely support the combined load.
• Warning: Maximum display weight on the PNR is 200 lbs. (90.72 kg).
• Warning: Watch for pinch points — do not put fingers between movable parts.
• Warning: Make sure the mount and brackets are correctly oriented, and that the display-securing flag is completely lowered except when removing/installing the display.
• Caution: Check the unit for shipping damage before beginning installation.

Installation

1. Locate two wood studs 16" apart on center. Determine the exact mounting location, considering screen size and the unit's total swing-arm radius. The PNR must be mounted between studs 16" apart on center (vertical or horizontal supporting framework).
2. Using a stud sensor, locate the two studs and draw a level plumb line indicating the desired height of the top mounting bracket.
3. With an assistant, lift and hold the PNR against the wall; mark the mounting holes for two pilot holes to drill into the center of the studs, making sure they're level.
4. Lay the PNR on the floor and drill two pilot holes (9/32" bit) at the marked locations for the top bracket.
5. Install two 3/8" x 2-1/2" lag bolts (50) and washers (60) through the PNR top bracket into the upper pilot holes — do not tighten yet, leaving room to hang the PNR.
6. With an assistant, lift and hang the PNR on the two lag bolts (make sure washers are in front of the top bracket, not behind it). Slide into the desired position and tighten the two lag bolts.
7. Mark the two bottom mounting bracket holes, aligned parallel to the top bracket holes. Drill two pilot holes (9/32" bit), install two more lag bolts and washers, then tighten all lag bolts.

Adjust Height

Height adjustment range is up to 1.08". Use the adjustment wrench on the adjustment nut: turn clockwise (CW) to lower the unit, or counterclockwise (CCW) to raise it.

Install Cover Plates & End Caps

The cover plates and end caps have pressure-fitting ends that lock together. Install the cover plate (20) over the top bracket, then the end cap (30) on the cover plate. Repeat for the bottom mounting bracket.

Mount the Display

1. Make sure power is off to the display before mounting it.
2. Install the PSB interface mounting bracket on the display panel per the display manufacturer's instructions.
3. With two people supporting both sides of the display (displays may weigh in excess of 40 lbs), align the four mounting buttons on the display/bracket with the four mounting holes in the head assembly.
4. Lower the display into place, listening for an audible "click" confirming the mounting buttons are properly seated in the lower area of the mounting holes. Improper installation can lead to the display falling, causing serious injury or equipment damage — ensure mounting buttons are completely engaged.
5. Connect and secure power/audio/video cables with sufficient slack for swing arm movement.

Optional security: holes in the faceplate accept a padlock or similar locking device. The pin and nut can also be moved from the upper to the lower holes for a more permanent locking arrangement.

Cable Management

1. Route power/audio/video cables through the cable channel in the top arm, leaving sufficient slack and avoiding pinch points; secure with two clips and two tiewraps.
2. Route cables along the bottom arm, using tiewraps to secure them at each arm and through the cable channel.
3. Route cables to an open area behind the mounting plate, with slack for connection and extension. Caution: do not route cables through holes in the display mounting plate, to prevent equipment damage.

Adjustments

Vertical Tilt Tension

With the display mounted, check for the desired vertical tilt tension and adjust the Centris Select™ knob until achieved. Tighten the vertical tilt lock screw to lock the mount at the desired tilt.

Lateral Tilt Tension

Using a 9/16" wrench (not provided), slightly tighten or loosen the lateral tilt tension adjustment nut, then remount the display and check tension — repeat until desired. Caution: overtightening will cause excessive wear and may distort adjustment components.

Rotational Tilt Tension

Loosen or tighten the bottom rotational tilt tension adjustment nut, remount the display, and check — repeat until desired tension is achieved.

Swing Arm Adjustments

The dual swing arms ship centered on the top and bottom mounting brackets. Both brackets have slotted holes allowing lateral adjustment:

• Off-center (no disassembly): adjust up to 1" left or right of center.
• Left of center (with disassembly): use the first and third slotted holes in the top and bottom brackets.
• Right of center (with disassembly): use the third and fifth slotted holes in the top and bottom brackets.

To adjust the arm position off-center: remove the display, loosen the four bolts (two top, two bottom) securing the swing arm assembly, move the assembly to the desired location, retighten, and remount the display.

To reconfigure left/right of center: remove the display, remove the four securing bolts (the arm assembly and plate may fall — be careful), move the swing arm assembly to the desired location, install the retaining pin assemblies (one top, one bottom) with two securing bolts, install and tighten all four bolts, then remount the display.

Swing Arm Tension

Swing arm tension is factory pre-set for displays near the top of the mount's weight capacity. For smaller/lighter displays, it may be difficult to reposition the display after mounting — adjust tension as follows (display must be mounted first):

1. Locate the adjustment bar and wrench provided with the mount.
2. Place the adjustment bar into the socket head cap screw at the swing arm pivot point (display may need repositioning to access it).
3. Turn the adjustment bar clockwise to increase tension, or counterclockwise to reduce it. Small adjustments of 1/8 turn or less are typically all that's needed.
4. Check tension and repeat as needed. If moving from a smaller to a larger display, tension will likely need to be increased.

Removing the Display from the Mount

1. Remove the bolt or padlock from the faceplate if used (if the pin was used as a permanent lock, remove the nut and pin and move them from the lower to the upper holes).
2. Pull back on the flag at the upper mounting hole and press the pin down into the "Open" position.
3. With two people, carefully lift the display from the mount (displays may weigh in excess of 40 lbs).
4. Lift the pin and return the flag to the "Closed" position against the faceplate after the display is removed.
