Overview

Installation instructions for the Chief® MAC501 In-Wall Enclosure — a recessed housing designed to be installed between two wood studs (16" on center) that provides a mounting point and electrical/cable pass-through for in-wall flat panel display accessories (such as the JWDIW swing arm mount).

Important Notes

• Suitable for use in other environmental air space per NEC Section 300.22(C).
• Maximum specified ambient temperature of the cabinet system is 40°–120°F (4°–49°C).
• Minimum spacing requirements for Information Technology Communication Equipment per NEC/ANSI/NFPA 70-1999 must be maintained — refer to your communication equipment manufacturer's specs.
• This cabinet system is for use with ITE or Audio/Video equipment only.

Important Warnings

• Structural strength: the wall structure must support the combined weight of the box and all equipment, not to exceed 75 lbs (34.02 kg).
• This equipment must be installed and assembled by qualified service personnel in accordance with local building codes.
• Electrical shock hazard: always confirm the area behind mounting surfaces is free of electrical wires and cables before cutting, drilling, or installing fasteners.
• Explosion/fire hazard: always confirm the area behind mounting surfaces is free of gas, water, waste, or other plumbing before cutting or drilling.
• Grounding must be installed by qualified personnel using a UL-recognized No. 12 AWG green-and-yellow grounding wire connected to the grounding lug on the mount.

Site Preparation

1. Identify a suitable wall location. The MAC501 is designed for in-wall installation between two wood studs, 16" on center — make sure there's adequate space on each side of the studs for electrical wires/cables, plumbing, ductwork, or insulation.
2. Use a stud sensor to locate and mark the studs.
3. Center and level the housing between the marked studs.
4. Using the housing as a template, draw a pencil line completely around it. (The housing is designed to fit directly between and against two adjacent studs.)
5. Cut the drywall along the outside edge of the line and remove it.

In-Wall Enclosure Installation

1. Install the PAC-GB1 electrical box accessory into the MAC501, following the instructions included with the PAC-GB1.
2. Connect electrical wiring.
3. Route audio/visual cables into the housing.
4. Center the MAC501 in the wall opening and insert it.
5. Align the front of the box flush with the front face of the wall.
6. Drill six 3/16" diameter pilot holes in the studs at the marked mounting holes.
7. Attach the MAC501 using six M7 × 40mm Allen head connector screws driven with the included M4 Allen head bit.

Installing an Arm Kit

Once the MAC501 is installed, follow the instructions included with the specific arm kit (e.g. JWDIW swing arm) to complete the display mount installation.
