Overview

The HE series 960H DVRs combine a hard disk recorder, video multiplexer, and web server into a single unit for surveillance systems. They use industry-standard front-end to back-end architecture with H.264 compression and intelligent recording algorithms, allowing simultaneous record, live view, playback, backup, control, and remote access (hexaplex operation).

Connections & Setup

Back panel connectors (vary slightly by model): analog video (BNC) inputs, video out (BNC, main and call), audio in/out, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet (10/100Base-T), USB mouse port, RS-485 (for PTZ cameras/keyboards), alarm inputs/outputs (N.O./N.C., not simultaneous), and 12VDC power input.

Front panel includes Mode, Seq, Call, Search, Rec, Play/Pause, Stop, Copy, Menu/Esc, Page, arrow/BS/DEL navigation, Enter, split-window +/- buttons, alphanumeric camera-selection buttons (1-8), Power/HDD/Network LEDs, an IR remote sensor, and a USB 2.0 port. A remote control duplicates most front-panel functions from up to ~32 feet, line of sight.

Install the internal SATA hard drive(s) before first use — capacity varies by model (see Specifications). After basic cabling (cameras, monitor, network, power), the setup menu walks through camera setup, video loss detection, motion/alarm setup, main & sequence display, scheduled recording, HDD setup/formatting, NAS/password setup, user accounts, system setup, RS-232/422/485 setup, and network setup.

Recording & Search

• Scheduled Record Setup: Assign recording modes per time block and per channel.
• Motion Setup: Programmable detection area and sensitivity per camera, with pre/post-alarm recording windows (0-10 sec pre-alarm, 0-60 min post-alarm).
• Alarm Setup: Configure alarm input/output behavior tied to external sensors or door switches.
• Search modes: Time Search, Search by Event/Log, Smart Search, POS Search (16-channel model), and Archive Playback.
• Backup/Export: Export recorded video via USB, internal burner, or network to AVI/JPEG using the included utilities and AVI Conversion tool.

Network & Remote Access

The Network Setup menu configures Net Type (Static IP, PPPoE, or DHCP), IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS. PPPoE credentials and DDNS (Dynamic, Static, or Custom — including the built-in free Fly2DNS service) can be configured for remote access without a static public IP. Notification settings (e.g., email alerts) and FTP setup are available for event-driven uploads. A 3G modem setup menu supports cellular connectivity. Remote viewing is supported via Internet Explorer (ActiveX-based), Firefox/Chrome, and a dedicated DVR Browser/Search Tool utility. Port forwarding instructions are included for router-based remote access setups.
