Aeotec Range Extender Zi (Zigbee) — User Manual

User guide for the Aeotec Range Extender Zi (Zigbee edition) — a plug-in Zigbee repeater that extends network range between your Zigbee hub and devices experiencing poor connectivity.

Overview

Range Extender Zi boosts your Zigbee network by repeating signal between your hub and devices with weak connectivity. Intended for indoor use in dry locations only — do not use in damp, moist, or wet locations. Contains small parts; keep away from children.

Powering the Range Extender

Plug Range Extender Zi into an outlet. The LED will fade in and out indefinitely while it is not connected to a hub.

Determining Installation Location

Generally, position Range Extender Zi between your Zigbee hub and the Zigbee device experiencing poor connectivity.

Connecting to Your Hub

A. Aeotec Smart Home Hub or SmartThings

1. From the SmartThings dashboard, tap "+".
2. Tap Device.
3. Find and select Aeotec.
4. Tap Repeater / Extender.
5. Tap Aeotec Range Extender Zi.
6. Tap Start, then follow the remaining instructions to pair.
7. When prompted by your hub, tap the Action Button on Range Extender Zi — the LED will flash rapidly while it attempts to connect.

B. Home Assistant

1. From the Home Assistant dashboard, select Configurations.
2. Select Integrations.
3. Under Zigbee, select Configure.
4. Select "+".
5. When prompted by your hub, tap the Action Button on Range Extender Zi — the LED will flash rapidly while it attempts to connect.

C. Hubitat

1. Select Devices.
2. Select Discover Devices.
3. Select Zigbee.
4. Select Start Zigbee Pairing.
5. When prompted by your hub, tap the Action Button on Range Extender Zi — the LED will flash rapidly while it attempts to connect.

D. For Most Other Hubs

1. Set your Zigbee hub to connect Zigbee devices.
2. Tap the Action Button on Range Extender Zi — the LED will flash rapidly.

Alternate Method (Smart Life App)

1. Open the Smart Life app on your smartphone.
2. Tap the "+" icon.
3. Select Add Device.
4. Tap Set Up Aeotec / Extender.
5. Wait for Range Extender Zi to be recognized.
6. When recognized, confirm the indicator is blinking rapidly.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the device to your network.

Connection LED States

• Success: LED becomes solid.
• Fail: LED returns to fading in and out.

Toggle LED On / Off

After a successful connection, double-tap the Action Button to toggle the LED on or off while connected.

Not Connecting? Try These Steps

1. Press and hold the Action Button for 10+ seconds.
2. When factory reset and ready to pair, the LED should flash fast in and out.
3. Try connecting again — consider a closer location temporarily, then move it into its final installation location.
