    Installation instructions and remote phone-control commands for the 2GIG Vario Voice Module — provides audible status announcements and lets any touch-tone phone act as a remote keypad for a 2GIG Vario System.

    Overview

    The 2GIG Vario Voice Module provides audible information about the status of the 2GIG Vario System and enables any remote touch-tone (DTMF) telephone to act as a keypad for the system. When a system event occurs (such as an alarm activation), the Voice Module notifies a system user by calling a specified telephone number and playing a pre-recorded announcement.

    DIP Switches

    3 Test Connected in parallel to all output channels. Enables listening to all played messages using a speaker (at least 32 Ω) connected between the Test Spkr and COM terminals.
    4 Intern MIC Select external or internal microphone for recording messages. On: records from the microphone on the Voice Module board. Off: records from a microphone on the 2GIG Vario Listen-in & Speak Module.

    Wiring

    The Voice Module board contains two connectors:

    • BUS (plug 1): Connects the Voice Module to the panel via the 4-wire BUS. The AUX (RED), COM (BLK), BUS (YEL), and BUS (GRN) terminals are identical to the BUS connector and can be used for the same purpose.
    • VOICE (plug 2): Connects the Voice Module to the VOICE connector on the 2GIG Vario System main panel via the supplied cable. Transmits signals from the Voice Module to the telephone line during remote communication — essential for normal operation.

    When connecting a Listen-in & Talk Module to the Voice Module, use one of the following wire types for the IN/OUT connections:

    • Independently shielded wires — for electromagnetically noisy environments / long distance. Shield should be grounded to the COM terminal block.
    • Independently twisted paired wires — for electromagnetically unquiet environments / middle distance. The second wire should be grounded to COM.
    • Other wire types — acceptable for electromagnetically silent environments / short distance.

    Wiring notes: Do not run wires close to power (110/230 VAC), high-voltage wiring, or communication lines. Do not wrap or roll wires. Ground all unused wires by connecting them to the COM terminal. Maximum distance between each Listen-in & Talk Module and the Voice Module is 10 meters; maximum of 10 Listen-in & Speak Modules can be connected to the 2GIG Vario System.

    LED Indicators

    • Power LED — indicates communication status between the Voice Module and the panel. Off: no voltage from main panel. On: normal communication with the panel BUS. Slow Flash: begins flashing 15 seconds after communication with the BUS is interrupted, or during installation mode.
    • Rec/Play LED — indicates communication status with the remote Follow-Me phone. Off: no communication. On: Follow-Me communication established. Slow Flash: Voice Module is in the process of calling the Follow-Me number.

    Telephone Control Commands

    Receiving a Call

    1. Pick up the phone.
    2. Say "Hello" or press #. You will hear an event announcement message.
    3. Choose an option from the Acknowledgment menu.
    Operation Description Action
    Acknowledgment Message Confirms message received; system calls the next Follow-Me number. Press 1.
    Acknowledge and Stop All Dialing Acknowledges the event and stops calling other Follow-Me numbers. Press 2, then enter code.
    Acknowledge and Access Operations Menu Lists available remote operation options. Press 3, then enter code.
    Listen In and Talk Bi-directional communication. Press 6, then 3, then enter code.
    Repeat the Event Message — Press #.
    Repeat the Acknowledge Menu — Press *.

    Calling the System

    1. Dial the premises phone number. If an answering machine is present, let it ring once, hang up, and call again. If not, wait for a continuous tone indicating the system has answered.
    2. After the tone, enter the 2-digit remote access code.
    3. Enter your user code and press #.
    4. Choose an option from the Operations menu.
