OPERATE IR HOME ELECTRONICS STORED IN CLOSETS OR CABINETS

Remote Control Booster and Repeater.
This project will allow Infrared remote controlled equipment to be operated while stored in an enclosed cabinet or closet. Hot Link Pro works with all your remotes. You do not have to use a specified remote as with some other brands of IR repeaters. Remote controls use invisible light (IR) to communicate remote control commands, but light does not pass through wood, such as cabinets or closets. An IR repeater receives the light from the remote by one sensor, converts the signal into an electrical signal that can be passed in to the cabinet via wire. There, it is then amplified and sent out to tiny IR light emitting devices called "emitters". Emitters then re-broadcast the IR commands -- just like the remote broadcasts the pulses of light that make up commands. The emitters are placed on to the front panel of the equipment, right over the sensor where the commands are normally received from your remote. In this way, wood cabinet doors may be used instead of glass. Equipment can even be hidden in a closet or cabinet and your home's beauty is not affected by the visible presence of electronic gear.

HOW TO INSTALL IT:

This system has all required components in one box.

  • Eye or Sensor to receive signals from remotes.
  • Emitters, 6 to attach to your equipment’s original sensor through the front panel.
  • Confirmation LED
  • Main Amplifier Box.
  • Power Supply.
  • Mounting kit.
  • Instructions PDF.
  1. Place blue confirmation LED in a door slot or other location as desired. This LED will blink when receiving commands, or glow if it picking up interference. It should be totally off when not in use.

  2. Mount or place the Main Amplifier Box within the cabinet or closet and run the emitters to each place where a component to be controlled resides. Locate the IR sensor on each piece of gear with a flashlight while looking through the front panel.

  3. Mount the Emitters over the original equipment IR sensors with the supplied double stick tape found on each emitter. Roll up unused emitters and place in back of cabinet. Do not cut off emitters. Emitter wires are 7 feet long. All 6 emitters can be extended with just 2 wires using the Emitter Extension Kit*.

  4. Position Eye in appropriate location to receive IR signals. Hot Link Pro’s Eye is 4 times as sensitive as a standard IR sensor and does not need direct line of sight. Therefore it can be hidden under a toe-kick or Sub woofer, behind a speaker grill, door slot, cabinet, LCD or plasma TV, or even on top of a cabinet or closet door trim.

  5. Mount with either the provided screw tab or Velcro provided in the Mounting Kit.

  6. Plug the other end into the RCA connector on the main amplifier box. The Eye can be extended with high-grade coax cable such as RG6 or Hot Link Pro Eye Extension Coax*.

  7. Plug in power supply to main box and AC outlet.

  8. Once installed, check the operation with your remote control.

That's it!

Now your remote commands travel through the IR Eye into the cabinet and are rebroadcast to the equipment hidden within. Your equipment can stay hidden keeping children and equipment safe from each other and allowing the beauty of your home’s style to shine through.

* Some systems may be located further away from the main viewing area, and therefore the IR repeater would need to have longer wires. The Eye may be extended with a Hot Link Mini Coax Extension cable or a high-grade RG6 coax cable. These cables come with an “F” connector and will require an F-RCA Male and an F-RCA Female adapter. Standard AV cables with RCA connectors are not shielded well enough to block low frequency radio noise. If a partially shielded extension cable is used, the blue LED will glow. It is recommended not to extend the Eye over 30 feet.

The emitters on the ribbon cable can be extended with just 2 wires using the Hot Link Emitter Extension Kit. This kit splices onto the ribbon cable of emitters after the blue LED wires have bean separated from the ribbon cable. Then any two wires can be added to extend the emitters over 100 feet. Category 5 wire with RJ45 or “ethernet” connectors may be used. It only uses the center 2 conductors. Speaker or phone wire may be used with the screw terminals on the Extension Kit.

SUMMARY

All the benefits, none of the drawbacks! Hot Link Pro hides inside your cabinet while repeating remote commands reliably, and allowing you more freedom to roam with your remote! This is what we call "System Transparency". You get all of the above benefits with no attachments to the remote, no batteries, no antennas, no added radio noise and no unsightly externally mounted components. Hot Link works with your remotes. You do not have to use a specified remote as with some other brands of IR repeaters.
