FIFTH EDITION OF AN ESSENTIAL RESOURCE
In it's 5th edition, this handy pocket guide is an essential resource for understanding all the technical terms and acronyms of the many different residential systems. It contains over 160 pages of definitions from the audio, video, security, telephony, electrical and computer industries. In addition it includes standard industry icons and a listing of over 60 associations and organizations in the the industry.
SAMPLE TERMS -
American Wire Gauge (AWG) – a wire diameter specification. The smaller the AWG number, the larger the wire diameter.
- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) - a networking protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network, whereby the device can request an address, and a central server will assign one.
- Lumen (LM) - a unit of measure for the amount of light emitted by a source. 0.98 Ft-c (foot-candles) of light covering a surface of 1 square foot.
- RJ45 - a communications jack with eight wire connection most commonly used to connect computers and other devices to a local area network (LAN). RJ-45 connectors look similar to RJ11 connectors used for connecting telephone equipment, but they are somewhat wider.
- Whole House Controller - a computer-based system dedicated to integrating and managing all home electronics systems.
