FEATURES AND INSTALLATION INFORMATION
HAL CONTROL SOFTWARE AND VOICE PORTAL
HAL2000 is the Operating System for your home. With HAL2000 running on
your PC and the Voice Portal installed, you can control all the systems
of your home, including lights, devices, appliances, home theater, audio/video,
security, climate, telephone and the Internet - from anywhere in the world
- by VOICE! The Voice Portal requires installation in an available PCI
slot in your PC, and enables all of the unique telephony features included
in HAL.
With the Voice Portal, you will be able to speak to HAL from any phone
in your home. You can pick up your cell phone -- or any phone on the planet
-- and call HAL to control devices in your home, or ask HAL to read you
your E-mail, give you a stock quote, or deliver any of the information
HAL has automatically retrieved from the Internet. The Voice Portal delivers
all the powerful features of HAL to any phone -- anywhere in the world.
All you have to do is dial and talk!
The HAL Voice Portal enables all HAL telephony features including:
- Telephone answering/voice mailbox features
- Caller ID
- Call intercept and blocking
- Talk to HAL from any house phone
Talk to HAL from any remote phone. HAL2000 also delivers complete power
line control of lights, devices, and appliances using the UPB power line
protocol. There's no need to tear your house apart to rewire your home
- use the wires that already exist in your home's walls. Use the Simply
Automated wall switches, lamp modules, or electrical receptacles, to control
every light in your house with HAL. Schedule your lights to go on and
off according to your lifestyle. HAL tracks sunrise and sunset where you
live by matching the latitude and longitude with the position of the sun.
HAL will also operate appliances, too, like coffee makers, popcorn poppers,
and ceiling fans. Use the Simply Automated appliance modules or receptacles,
plug in the appliance, and control it remotely.
One of HAL2000’s impressive features is the ease of setting up
macros to create lighting scenes and special events. A simple voice command
such as "It's time for a movie," can dim the lights down low,
get the popcorn popper going, and switch on that ceiling fan to a comfortable
setting. HAL gives the user the ability to fully automate their homes
using schedules, house modes, house scenes and all of the features found
in high end automation systems.
GLOBAL CACHE NETWORK ADAPTER WITH
IR LEARNER
Home theaters are better than ever before. But they're also more complicated
to operate. HAL2000 and Global Cache can make it easy! HAL uses infrared
(IR) to generate the same signals that come from the remote control devices
that the manufacturer provides with your audio/video equipment. The Global
Cache Network Adapter with IR emitters, along with HAL, becomes a universal
remote control that you can operate with your voice.
Use the compact IR Learner to capture and store the full spectrum, IR
codes that control infrared driven equipment. You simply aim your A/V
equipment remote at the learner, and the learner captures the codes, displays
them, converts the codes into other formats, and automatically copies
and pastes the codes into any Windows application that supports control
via IR. These stored codes can then be used to control and automate any
device that accepts infrared control signals, from any networked computer,
and over the Internet.
The real power of HAL2000 and Global Cache home theater control is the
ability to make many things happen with a single voice command. For instance,
it can be difficult to coordinate all the pieces of the home theater for
the different ways you want to use it. Sometimes, you just want to watch
the TV. Other times, you just want to listen to music. On other occasions,
you want to watch a movie. The movie requires the TV to be tuned to the
correct channel so it can receive the signal from the VCR or the DVD.
The stereo tuner has to be turned on and in the right mode to generate
surround sound for movie viewing. Finally, the VCR or DVD must be powered
up and ordered to play. With HAL, you can create a single voice command
- one of your own choosing - something like, "It’s time for
a movie.” With that phrase, HAL can be programmed to send IR codes
through the Global Cache Network Adapter to turn the TV on and switch
it to the right channel to receive the video signal from the VCR or DVD,
the stereo will be turned on and correctly configured for theater sound,
and the DVD or VCR will be turned on set to play. Your only responsibility
now is to ensure that the correct tape or DVD is in the player. HAL and
Global Cache make great home theater technology easy to use.
SIMPLY AUTOMATED UPB INTERFACE WITH COUPLER SWITCHES AND MODULES
Simply Automated UPB products are highly reliable, cost effective, and
allow intelligent control of lighting and appliances without special wiring.
UPB utilizes the existing electrical wiring within the home to communicate
control signals throughout the premises. Once configured, these UPB devices
can be made to operate as a stand-alone system, or be integrated with
an automation controller such as HAL2000.
Use the Computer Interface Module to initially configure the devices.
For example, the standard wall switches can be configured so that the
lighting fixtures in the TV room can fade down from full brightness to
a desired dimmed level to create a lighting scene perfect for TV and movie
viewing. Corded lamps and accent lighting connected to lamp modules can
also be set to desired levels. Got a popcorn popper loaded with your favorite
kernels ready to go? Plug the popper in to an appliance module, and configure
it to turn on when the lights start dimming. Install the phase coupler
to ensure that UPB control signals are properly being transmitted on both
the A and B side of the electrical power throughout the house.
SUMMARY
Now bring it all together with the PC Automation Starter Kit! With HAL2000,
Global Cache, and Simply Automated products waiting to respond, a simple
voice command such as “It’s time for a movie,” will
initiate HAL2000 to do its magic. HAL will send out the appropriate IR
commands through the Global Cache network adapter to turn on your required
A/V equipment. At the same time, HAL sends out UPB commands through the
computer interface module, and the lighting control signals travel throughout
the home’s wiring to the various wall switches and modules. The
lights now fade and dim, the movie begins to play, and the popper is making
a fresh batch of popcorn. And you and your family now get to enjoy a great
home movie experience!
