MORE EQUIPMENT INFORMATION:
The WGV572A high-performance RF-to-X10 transceiver kit takes the place
of the standard XT751 or XPPAT01 base transceiver. The kit consists of
the transceiver module, external antenna, power supply, cables and mounting
bracket. A power line interface, XPPSC05, sold separately, is required
to complete the installation.
The transceiver detects incoming RF signals generated by X10 compatible
remote devices such as palm pad remotes, key chain remotes, motion detectors,
and many others. The signals are sent to the power line interface module,
which then broadcasts the X10 commands down the power line to receiving
modules (X10 light switch modules, lamp modules, appliance modules, etc.).
Out of the box, the transceiver module is configured to accept all 16
X10 House Codes. This capability eliminates the need of having multiple
single-house code transceivers located throughout the premise. In addition,
should the need to filter, or disable, house codes are required, the transceiver
can be configured by connecting it to the serial port of a PC (with the
supplied RS232 cable) and running a software application downloaded free
from the Home Controls Website on the product page for WGV572A.
The use of the external antenna and supplied RG6U coaxial cable allows
the antenna to be mounted up to 12 feet away from the transceiver and
“up high” for better signal reception and coverage. No longer
is the antenna limited to installation to most knee-high electrical receptacles.
HOW TO INSTALL IT:
Installing the High Performance RF-to-X10 Transceiver Kit (WGV572A)
- Connect the WGV572A transceiver module to the XPPSC05 power line interface
using the black modular cable; verify RJ11 plugs are snapped in place.
- Locate a suitable place for the antenna. Connect the antenna to the
transceiver with the coaxial cable. Avoid mounting the antenna near
metallic items or near other RF equipment.
- Connect the power supply to the transceiver by means of the small
jack identified as “9 VDC.”
- Plug both power supply and power line interface into electrical receptacles.
- Test the system with the X10 wireless transmitter.
Installing the Power-line Interface, 2-way (XPPSC05)
- See above.
SUMMARY
The installation of a WGV572A high-performance X10 RF transceiver is an
excellent way to increase range and reliability between X10 wireless transmitters
and the X10 receiver modules and switches. The externally mounted antenna
and sensitive transceiver electronics greatly improve the overall operation
of an X10 RF wireless system.
