BLINK LAMPS WHEN THE PHONE OR DOORBELL RINGS

Blink Light Module for Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The project will blink lamps when the phone rings or when the doorbell button is activated.

The SAUMI32W Input Output module is a plug-in module designed to transmit the status of low voltage inputs or contact closures, and to control the operation of low voltage actuators based on digital commands received over the powerline. It is useful for detecting events such as ringing phones or doorbell or siren, for monitoring alarm switches on doors and windows or sensing audio signals from a sound system.

    HOW TO INSTALL IT:

    SAUMI32W Input/Output Module

    1. The SAUMI32W Input/Output UPB module is a plug-in device that can be programmed to control UPB devices and other low voltage devices directly from its relay outputs. Initial unit address programming is done through the UPStart software and SAUMCDB9W computer interface module (CIM).
    2. Connect the CIM to an available PC serial port and open UPStart software.
    3. From the Upstart Menu, click Device, Add. Choose MFG: Simply Automated , Product: UMI-32 3 Input 2 Output Module, but do not click Next yet.
    4. Plug the SAUMI32W into a 110VAC outlet and place in programming mode by tapping program button 5 times. Program LED’s will start to blink green. Click Next. Assign SAUMI32W to the first available UPB unit ID (Default Unit ID is 40).
    5. Program Link xxx into Custom Input 1 to trigger SAUML20W lamp module. (Close event = Blink)
    6. Program Link yyy into Custom input 3 to trigger SAUML20W lamp module. (Close event = Blink)
    7. Using 22AWG 2 conductor wire, connect Telephone Tip to terminal 5 and Telephone Ring to terminal 6 of I/O Module. (refer to manufacturer installation manual and observe applicable safety procedures)
    8. Using 22AWG 2 conductor wire, doorbell and transformer connections to terminals 13 and 14 of I/O Module. (refer to manufacturer installation manual and observe applicable safety procedures, i.e. power down doorbell circuit)

    SAI Lamp Module Installation

    1. Plug the SAUML20W into 120VAC receptacle.
    2. Program via UPStart. See step 2 of the Input/Output Module installation above.
    3. From the UPStart menu, click Device, Add. Choose MFR: Simply Automated and Product: UML Lamp Module. Do not click NEXT yet.
    4. Place UML Lamp Module in setup mode by tapping program button 5 times. LED starts to blink green. Click Next. Type appropriate data into UML.
    5. Program UML Lamp Module to respond to Links in I/O Module.
    6. Plug in a lamp to the bottom receptacle of UML lamp module.
    7. Manual switch of lamp must be in ON position for the lamp module to have control.

    SUMMARY

The SAI I/O module is the most important part of the project. With its multiple inputs, you can also trigger certain lights to blink when the phone is ringing, when the pool gate is opened, etc.

The blink trigger capability of the I/O module based on telephone ring or doorbell inputs allow lamp modules to be used as visual aids for the hearing impaired. To distinguish between a doorbell and phone ring, it is recommended to use separate lamp modules for each signal.
