WIRELESS
RF CONTROL OF UPB SWITCHES
RF Control of UPB Switches
The project will enable you to have wireless RF control of your
UPB switches. The keyfob remote will have the ability to turn ON/OFF/Dim/Bright
a switch or a group of switches.
The SSWA6R Wireless Automator is a pre-programmed kit with an RF
receiver containing 6 relay outputs, 4 button keyfob and plug-in
power supply. All relay outputs are defaulted to “validity”
mode, i.e. the relay is activated until the transmitter button is
released. The buttons are pre-configured as follows:
- Transmitter button I = Relay 1
- Transmitter button II = Relay 2
- Transmitter button III = Relay 3
- Transmitter button IV = Relay 4
- Transmitter buttons I & II Simultaneously = Relay 5
- Transmitter buttons III & IV Simultaneously = Relay 6
The SAUMI32W Input Output module is a plug-in module designed to
transmit the status of low voltage inputs or contact closures, and
to control the operation of low voltage actuators based on digital
commands received over the powerline. It is useful for detecting
events such as ringing phones or doorbell or siren, for monitoring
alarm switches on doors and windows or sensing audio signals from
a sound system.

HOW TO INSTALL IT:
Input/Output Module (SAUMI32W)
- The SAUMI32W Input/Output UPB module is a plug-in device that can
be programmed to control UPB devices and other low voltage devices directly
from its relay outputs. Initial unit address programming is done through
the UPStart software and SAUMCDB9W computer interface module (CIM).
- Connect the CIM to an available PC serial port and open UPStart software.
- From the Upstart Menu, click Device, Add. Choose MFR: Simply Automated,
Product: UMI-32 3 Input 2 Output Module but do not click Next yet.
- Plug the SAUMI32W into a 110VAC outlet and place in programming mode
by tapping program button 5 times. The Program LED’s will start
to blink green. Click Next. Assign SAUMI32W to the first available UPB
unit ID (Default Unit ID is 40).
- Program Link xxx into Input 1 to trigger the UPB switch or switches.
( Open event = Deactivate, Close event = Activate)
- Program Link xxx (same as above) into Input 2 to trigger Bright Commands
(Open event = Fade stop, Close event = Fade up)
- Program Link xxx (same as above) into Input 3 to trigger Dim Commands
(Open event = Fade stop, Close event = Fade down)
Wireless Automator Installation (SSWA6R)
- Mount SSWA6R in a suitable location.
- Connect enclosed wire harness to SSWA6R and strip ¼’’
insulation from the following wire colors : Red, Black, Purple, Purple
w/ black stripe, Orange, Orange w/ black stripe, Blue, Blue w/ black
stripe
- Insert the following wires to SAUMI32 input connections:
Black = input 6
Purple = input 7
Orange = input 9
Orange w/ black stripe = input 10
Blue = input 15
Blue w/ black stripe = input 16
- Twist Red and Purple w/ black stripe wires together and crimp with
B connector.
- Power up SSWA6R with included power supply.
- Configure relay 1 output for Latching/toggle mode. Refer to SSWA6R
installation manual for programming.
SAI Transceiver Switch Installation
- Shut off circuit breaker powering the switch that will be replaced.
- Replace the appropriate switch with the SAI Transceiver switch. Refer
to the mfr’s instructions for installation details.
- Power up the circuit breaker and test the Transceiver Switch manually
for correct operation.
- Program via UPStart to respond to links programmed in the I/O Module.
See step 2 of the Input/Output Module above.
- From the UPStart menu , click Device, Add. Choose MFR: Simply Automated
and Product: US1/US2 Dimming Switch. Do not click NEXT yet.
- Place Dimming Switch in Program mode by tapping rocker 5 times. LED
starts to blink green. Click Next.
- Program switch to respond to Link xxx programmed in I/O Module.
SUMMARY
The SSWA6R outputs allow the I/O module to generate the necessary UPB
ON/OFF/Dim and bright commands. Relay 1’s toggle configuration enables
the keyfob to turn ON (initial Button 1 push) and OFF (next Button 1 push).
Relays 2 and 4 “validity” modes create the perfect trigger
for a UPB dim or bright command. Recommend labeling Button I for Power,
Button II for Bright and Button IV for Dim.
