BLINK OUTDOOR LIGHTS WHEN A SECURITY PANEL GOES INTO ALARM MODE

Universal UPB Blink Light Module for Security Alarm Panels
This project will blink your outdoor lights when your security panel goes into alarm mode. It requires minimal wiring and gives most alarm panels the ability to trigger lights.

The SAUMI32W Input Output module is a plug-in module designed to transmit the status of low voltage inputs or contact closures, and to control the operation of low voltage actuators based on digital commands received over the power line. It is useful for detecting events such as ringing phones or doorbell or siren, for monitoring alarm switches on doors and windows or sensing audio signals from a sound system.

    HOW TO INSTALL IT:

    SAUMI32W Input/Output Module

    1. The SAUMI32W Input/Output UPB module is a plug-in device that can be programmed to control UPB devices and other low voltage devices directly from its relay outputs. Initial unit address programming is done through the UPStart software and SAUMCDB9W computer interface module (CIM).
    2. Connect the CIM to an available PC serial port and open UPStart software.
    3. From the UPStart Menu, click Device, Add. Choose MFR: Simply Automated, and Product: UMI-32 3 Input 2 Output Module but do not click Next yet.
    4. Plug the SAUMI32W into a 110VAC outlet and place in programming mode by tapping program button 5 times. Program LED’s will start to blink green. Click Next. Assign SAUMI32W to the first available UPB unit ID (Default Unit ID is 40).
    5. Program Link into Input 1 to trigger a UPB switch.
    6. Identify siren output from alarm panel.
    7. Using 22AWG 2 conductor wire, connect siren output of alarm panel to terminals 6 and 7 of the I/O module

    SAI Transceiver Switch Installation

    1. Shut off the circuit breaker that powers the switch that will be replaced.
    2. Replace the appropriate switch with the SAI Transceiver switch. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for installation details.
    3. Power up the circuit breaker and test the Transceiver Switch manually for correct operation.
    4. Program via UPStart to respond to links programmed in the I/O Module. See step 4.1.2
    5. From the UPStart menu, click Device, Add. Choose MFR: Simply Automated and Product: US1/US2 Dimming Switch. Do not click NEXT yet.
    6. Place Dimming Switch in Program mode by tapping rocker 5 times. LED starts to blink green. Click Next.
    7. Program switch to respond to Links in I/O Module.

    SUMMARY

The SAI I/O module is the most important part of the project. With its multiple inputs, you can also trigger certain lights to blink when the phone is ringing, when the pool gate is opened, etc. It can also control sprinkler valves for watering your garden.

Since most alarm panels have a siren output, it is the most accessible part to interface a UPB lighting system to an alarm panel. The blinking lights are disabled as soon as the siren output is shut off.
